I am on 22.04 LTS using a thinkpad 13 gen 2 with integrated graphics (intel hd graphics 620). The external monitor does not even get detected when connected through HDMI.
I would appreciate it if someone could share the solution, or explain the limitation. Thanks!

Do you see the Lenovo logo on it (before the OS boots)? Go to the bios and select HDMI as the priority output, and HDMI as the bios screen. Reboot. You should (certainly now), see the Lenovo logo on the screen.

It looks like your laptop model has an Iris Xe GPU separate from the integrated graphics, which may be what the HDMI port is wired to. Have you tried installing all available system updates? Seeing that some issues I found when searching "Linux Iris Xe HDMI not working" are from around July of this year, the outdated kernel that comes with the 22.04 installer may not support that specific GPU version.

Hi, I have the Y540-IRH15 with the RTX-2060. I have been using it with my TV via hdmi but since updating to Windows 11 it has stopped working. I can connect to my monitor via usbc and display port but hdmi ust says "no signal" on my TV, monitor and projector. The laptop does detect each connected device though and tells me the correct make and model and appears in device manager when plugging in.
I have updated everything, Windows, uninstalled both display adapters and reinstalled them with the latest drivers. The BIOS has been updated and reset, I've tried 5 different hdmi cables (all of which connect fine on my other Windows 10 laptop). I am manually selecting the source obviously on each device and using all output display optionsin Windows (extended display, duplicate etc).
The only thing I can think of is that the port is faulty, but it has hardly been used and was fine before Windows 11 took over!
I am stumped, any ideas? Thanks

try Win10 again. If it works there, the laptop has a compatibility issue with Win11 and would probs need a BIOS update, which might never come due to the laptops age
