HDMI not working well after last BIOS update
Roll Back the BIOS Update If the issue began after the BIOS update, rolling back to a previous version may resolve it: Access Lenovo's support site: Download the previous BIOS version compatible with your laptop model. Revert BIOS: Follow Lenovo's instructions for downgrading BIOS. This typically involves creating a bootable USB drive with the previous BIOS version. 2. Check and Update Drivers Sometimes, BIOS updates require corresponding updates to device drivers. Update Graphics Driver: Visit AMD's website to download and install the latest graphics driver for your P14s Gen 5 AMD model. Update Monitor Drivers: Though uncommon, updating the specific drivers for your monitors might help. 3. Adjust Power Management Settings BIOS updates can alter power management settings, affecting HDMI wake-up behavior. Disable Fast Startup: Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power button does > Change settings that are currently unavailable. Uncheck Turn on fast startup, save changes, and restart your computer. And as a last resort, do this, Perform a CMOS Reset Resetting the BIOS to default can sometimes clear up unexpected behavior: Shut down your laptop. Press the Novo button (or a similar button depending on your ThinkPad model) to access BIOS. Navigate to the Reset to Default Settings option and save changes. Plus, if nothing works, report the issue to Lenovo support and forums. For temporary time use USB-C to HDMI adapter until firmware fix is provided More on reddit.com

r/Lenovo on Reddit: HDMI not working well after last BIOS update
June 5, 2025 -

Hi. I have a ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 AMD. It's been working fine (in this regard) until one week ago, when I got the latest system update containing also a BIOS update. Since then, the external monitors don't wake up when I plug the computer in, or when it simply comes from sleep mode. I need to turn the monitor on manually, then replug the cable, and only then the HDMI signal gets there. I haven't changed any settings, so power settings in Windows 11 are exactly the same, power settings in the monitors (it's happening both at home and the office, and I have at home the monitors attached to a gaming desktop via an KVM and it works like charm, and it used to work like a charm also with the laptop until last week).

Has anyone else experienced this? Anyone has any idea on how to work around this? Thanks in advance.

r/thinkpad on Reddit: Lenovo ThinkPad x1 carbon Gen 7 not detecting monitor via HDMI cord
December 20, 2023 -

I've updated all drivers, I use dual boot and the issue is the same even when I switch to Ubuntu.

If I connect another laptop using the same HDMI and monitor it works fine. I've even tried doing a reset of the laptop the x1 carbon just won't detect the secondary monitor. The graphics card I have is Intel(R) HD Graphics 620.

Serial Number: PF0UE20F, Product Number: 20HQS1RP0H, Bios Version: N1MET70W 1.55

What's the solution?

August 11, 2023 - The model of this external monitor is Samsung SyncMaster 923nw I also tested extending the desktop by HDMI cable connected from the dock to an LG smartTV and it doesn't work either. In this link, I see the dock is compatible with P17 Series · https://smartfind.lenovo.com/accessories/#/products/40AF0135EU · Everything was working fine with this dock before the firmware update, but now it doesn't. The desktop extended from the dock to any of those external screens worked perfectly before the mentioned update. Now, after the update, the desktop extension both by DisplayPort or HDMI cable does not work anymore.

Hi! · This can be caused by multiple thing! · Do you know if the hdmi port has worked prior? Have you in the past dropped you laptop or spilled any liquid on it? · First of, please verify that the external monitor is working. That it is powering up, and that another device can connect and display to it. Preferably using the same hdmi port in the monitor. If this don't work, please try: · Another cable · Another port in the monitor · If there were any issues with above, please try the new cable / port with your laptop and see if this works. If everything works with the monitor, then it is probably the a laptop problem. · We'll now check some potential hardware issues: · Check if the hdmi port looks broken. · Do you see any debris? If you see debris, please clean it out with something like a (wooden) toothpick or something similar. · Do you see any 'goo' or corrosion? · Do you see any bent pins, or any burn marks? Then the physical port is likely busted, and unless you can re-solder a new port on the motherboard (which is an advanced procedure) then replacing the motherboard is the only solutions, which sadly may not be practical. · We will now check some software issues on your laptop, keep your monitor plugged in with these steps: · Restart your laptop. · Please make sure you have all your drives, firmware, bios and windows up to date. You can find your device drivers on Lenovo's support page. Don't forget to restart your laptop! · Please go into your windows settings, enter system settings, and then display (may slightly differ on windows 10). · Can you see multiple displays there? If yes, then you should have multiple display options, on: · Windows 11, Display settings: at top of the page, in the bottom right of the display layout box, you will see options such as Disconnect this display, next to the Identify button. Press this , then you should get a drop-down menu, please select Extend desktop to this display. · Windows 10, Display settings: Scroll down to the Multiple Displays sections, there you have a box that may say Disconnect this display. Press this Disconnect this display box, then you should get a drop-down menu, please select Extend desktop to this display. · If neither of above solves this, you may want to open up the laptop and inspect the motherboard, especially around the hdmi connector area if you see any disintegrated components, any burns or corrosion. Here is a link to a motherboard disassembly for your model. If you find something problematic, you'd most likely need to replace that component to solve the problem (and that may still not fix it), which would suddenly transform this into an advanced repair. You may also take a picture and upload for us to see if you want, then please see this guide Adding images to an existing question. · If neither of this works, please respond and we will see what we can do! · Good luck, · Cheers
