Does anyone have a straightforward breakdown of Lenovo's product line. I know in the old days the T-series where business workhorse, x1 carbon used to be the expensive ultrabook etc. But now they have all sorts of new monikers, I don't know.. And what are the best values and deals from these, anyone know?

Just curious what each letter and number means for each laptop. Itโs letter-numbers-maybe letter. Is there a document explaining each letter?
I am after getting a 13โ (preferably) or 14โ refurbished Thinkpad with 10th /11th gen intel and 16GB ram that is not heavy. Ability to rotate like a yoga would be nice.
Can someone summarise the key differences between the Thinkpad lineup from 3-4yrs ago to assist me shortlist refurbished Thinkpads to keep an eye on.
I've noticed the L series generally go for cheaper, so I was wondering what the difference is?
I'm really confused with the difference between the legion models - 5,7 51, 71, pro, slim. I'm trying to get the best model for my case use but il'm having trouble to even keep track of the models when comparing.
Is X at the top and E at the bottom? In between?
I have old c230s and they were a smart buy. I want to follow that with a new model. I have an E but now thinking about returning it and upgrading. Keyboard touch matters. Solid feel matters.
I have been looking for a used on myself and I see X, T, E and L versions that all looks almost the exact same, so I'm wondering what the actual difference is? CPU, RAM and performance feels like a givento be better on the more expensive models, but what about cooling, webcam and maybe backlit keyboard? And is there a difference in chassis, motherboard layout and screen housing or are they at least the same?
Part why I'm wondering is when I was looking for one I wanted at least a 1440p panel or even better a 4K one (got good eyes and hate seeing individual pixels), but since they're so hard to find I settled with a E495 that I got for 150eur with a 1080p panel that I'm gonna try to replace to something better, but at first I wasn't sure about the combability both hardware and software wise but after a bit of googling I found out that it should work just fine as long as I get the right cable and something that fits physically. But it still made me wonder what the actual differences between Thinkpads are apart from raw performance?
Hi,
According to Wikipedia:
"P series are the most advanced ThinkPad products offered by Lenovo"
So I was chasing P, as I wanted to buy one with only Ryzen processor. My target: 14", 2021+ model (gen2+), I need workhorse good performing laptop. I would love 15" or 16" but to me latest versions are screwed regarding ergonomy --> touchpad on very left side. Rather than making a bit wider casing, they decided to make keyboard on the edges, so the result is not much space to rest left hand on casing, so I've picked 14".
Then I realized the fact that most of my targeted "P" has RAM soldered. I'm not looking for troubles, soldered CPU is bad enough. I do prefer RAM in slots so I can do cheap eco repairs in case of problems rather than scrapping whole board.
So I was scratching my head why in top P series RAM is soldered like in cheap junk rather than in slots?
So I went on T page:
"The T series is officially the flagship ThinkPad product, offering high-performance computers aimed at businesses and professionals." But found RAM soldered as well.
Okay, so I assume in here P as a top top, while T as a flagship, okay, both RAM soldered.
So I gave up and started to read about budget stuff, L series:
"L series has an added focus on economy and value, they are the entry-level range for enterprise use, and are also used by students." To me it sounds like really budget entry level cheap lower quality laptop, but hold no: surprisingly 2021 "L" model (gen2) with 2 RAM slots, while "higher" T and P same year models has soldered RAM.
Does it means: ignore series as they have no clue what they're doing really regarding marking series logically?
Or I'm just the biggest nerd in here and no one else is paying attention if RAM is soldered on board or in slot?
EDIT:
SORTED! SOUNDS LIKE BRILLIANT COMMUNITY IN HERE!
Thank you for brilliant info!
I just bought L14 gen2 for now (Ryzen gen5 5650U with good single thread performance, socketed RAM), as really needed to upgrade to carry on with my day-to-day work more efficient way, but by majority notes sounds like T14 / P14s is best bet for RAM socketed version with good Ryzen CPU and nice options while keeping good ergonomic thing (centered touchpad), in second hand market currently.
Definitely I'll watch listings/marketplaces and upgrade my L14 when I spot T14 / P14s one in good condition. Then it will be just matter of swapping SSD between, especially I'll run Debian. I don't need to worry now if it will be next week, month or in few months time because for now L14 in here, well, not delivered yet but on the way. Thank you all :-D
I am trying to determine the difference between the Ideapad 330 and the Ideapad 330s and I came across the Lenovo V Series which appears to be some iteration of a Thinkpad:
ThinkPad > Lenovo V Series > V330 (15)
https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/v-series/V330-15/p/88LG80V0912
My confusion lies with the fact that it is also references a 330 model and I thought the only 330 models were Ideapads.
And if it is not too much trouble does anyone have a "DEFINITIVE" link to every single Lenovo model available in 2018 in the U.S. (no offense to the rest of the world). TIA.
I think I understand basically the significance of the first letter in the model but do the numbers of the model have any significance? I have an X270, what is the difference between that and an X260 or an X280 or an X1 for that matter? Is one older or newer, or more powerful?
I tried both google and chatgpt, but got conflicting and confusing information. I tried searching this sub too, but maybe I'm using the wrong terms.
If anyone know of a helpful guide to the numbering I would appreciate it!
Hello World ! This is my first post on Reddit so ne gentle please !
I've for a question about the different series of Thinkpad.
I have a E580 and I spend a lot of time comparing the different Thinkpad but I can't find the reason why there is so much difference between the price of the different series.
And the price of the component too, for exemple
Ram 8+8 DDR4 2 400 MHz SoDIMM E495 --> 67.85Chf E490 --> 95.21Chf Windows 10 Pro E495 --> 30.16Chf E490 --> 46.71Chf
Is there an explanation ? (I'm sure there is one)
Thank you and keep dreaming !
From when i remember , all of lenovo devices where weak , for example one of my relatives bought a lenovo tablet , that was very weak and slow , after a short time , the device stopped working
many of my relatives and friends had lenovo laptops (because its cheap) and they said : its trash and it will slow down after 1 or 2 year of usage , and most of the lenovo laptops that i saw and used were like this (most of them becomes much slower after 1 year)
after 1 or 2 year when i entered reddit i saw something weird... everyone here love lenovo very very much!!! I bought an old acer laptop , that was one of the cheapest things on shop but solid as its price !!! And I heard really great experiences about asus and it was fast when i used it !!! But everyone here hate asus and acer ! And even something like dell and hp !! I cant really believe !!! Every lenovo tested was not worth buying , why there isnt anyone that has problem with lenovo , ROG is one of the best laptops that i ever seen , it can handle temperature even when its 14th CPU using its make power... but here , others like legion and LOQ more than ROG and tuf .... I dont know what I should really say... is really lenovo 100% fast and great?
so i am looking for a thinkpad and i am kinda lost with the naming series of all of the thinkpads , can anyone pls break it down for me? i did some reserch and found the x1 is considerd the best but i cant find much info weather the T/E series r good, or if which is better than the other. Can anyone help me out ?
I thought that the number after P stood for the screen size. I have a P15v, but I keep seeing around P52 and stuff. What does it all mean?
Can someone knowledgable enough, have the honor of explaining what the letters mean in ThinkPads ?
From the X to the T and such, I'm sure every beginner here would find it useful including me!
Hey, looking for my first thinkpad to study industrial engineering. Do you know the difference between the thinkpad E series and the L series? I can't seem to see the difference.
Thanks in advance!
Hello All,
Looking for a new computer to buy - particularly want one with a ton of RAM since I usually have a lot of tabs open.
I saw this model Lenovo thinkpad which looks nice (I prefer the centered trackpad): https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Extreme-Touchscreen-Workstation-Thunderbolt/dp/B09RQMWJSV/ref=pd_lpo_3?pd_rd_w=qHwVC&content-id=amzn1.sym.116f529c-aa4d-4763-b2b6-4d614ec7dc00&pf_rd_p=116f529c-aa4d-4763-b2b6-4d614ec7dc00&pf_rd_r=2MV2G9G7WHVG8WKFB6QN&pd_rd_wg=UH1C5&pd_rd_r=07210948-3aa2-480f-990f-6701f2227d54&pd_rd_i=B09RQMWJSV&psc=1#customerReviews
However, I noticed it says gen 3, whereas there seem to be higher gen modes (like gen 10). So is the lower gen bad? Are the higher gens/newer gens that much better that I should go with that instead?
