Been reading some interesting articles lately that the legions are MIL-STD 810G. Can anyone back this information up? I know some of the think pads are built pretty tough. The legions though?

I’m coming from a thinkpad x1 extreme gen 1 to a legion 7i pro and while the type of materials is different, i find the quality and feel of the legion is even better than the thinkpad even if it doesn’t have the carbon-Kevlar material thing. It just feels solid and extremely high quality. It also beats the M1 Mac my work gave me in terms of quality IMO. So I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s up to military standards.

At work we use Thinkpad X1 Carbons (Gen 9 and 10) and I currently have the Legion 7i Gen 8. The Legion has a nice solid metal feel, but I actually prefer the magnesium body of the X1 Carbon. I think the coating they use for the magnesium makes it feel less sturdy or premium. I can confirm that the coating can be rubbed off to expose the metal frame. There is also a weight different between the two materials and you can tell that for the thinness of the X1 Carbons, it feels a lot less denser. Think of 14kt gold vs 24kt gold.

Looking to buy a T15 something. Used. And I read about one with a plastic chassis. I was really looking for one with the magnesium and/or aluminum chassis. Is there any way to tell whithout physically touching what models have the rugged chassis?

Most think pads are rugged and have mil spec, atleast most modern models. I would suggest going to the laptop page on the website and go through features. Lenovo loves flaunting this and it's usually the last feature point.

ThinkPads are not ruggedized at all and the MIL-SPEC testing is marketing snake oil.
