Where do I buy a Lenovo laptop?
Ready to Buy the Right Lenovo Laptop for You?
We hope our explainer and product picks here have simplified things. For more of our favorite laptops (that is, including ones outside the Lenovo-sphere), check out our roundup of the best laptops overall, as well as our guides to the best cheap laptops and business laptops. But for our current, ever-evolving list of Lenovo favorites, check out our detailed spec breakout, and don't forget to check back as we test and add new models.
Which Series of Lenovo Laptops Is Best?
Because Lenovo makes every one of its laptops with a specific set of customers in mind, we can't point you to one line of Lenovo laptops as the absolute "best" for every situation. With that in mind, we've listed and covered each of Lenovo's laptop series below to help you decide which type of Lenovo laptop is best for you.
Lenovo's conventional laptops include ThinkPads (business laptops), ThinkBooks (small-business work machines), and IdeaPads (general-use laptops). Gaming machines fall under Lenovo's Legion (higher-end) and LOQ (budget) lines, while 2-in-1 hybrids come in Yoga (premium) and Flex (budget) varieties. First, let’s look at the laptops that started it all: the ThinkPads.
Leaks of the 2024 Legion and LOQ lineup have arrived, and I decided to make things easier for you and write this short guide. Apparently these new laptops will be announced at CES and will be available in January already, so you can decide whether you want to wait for any of them, or buy something now (if you find stock, of course...). Note that availability depends on a lot of factors and the information I'm providing now is based on leaks and are not yet officially provided by Lenovo. Regardless, confidence level is high. Let's go.
Couple of general observations
All of the devices I present here are confirmed to use Intel CPUs.
I have no info about the AMD platform. Maybe they will come later, maybe they will not be available at all. I assume they will come later, but you never know with AMD.
NO Meter Lake. None of the devices are using Meteor Lake CPUs.
There is a new cooling system which I will present down below separately.
NO new GPU. We're sticking to Nvidia 4000 series. No 3000 series, no AMD.
The new cooling system
So Lenovo came up with a new cooling system and it looks like this:
The internal layout of the new Thinkbook P16The image above shows the internal layout of the new Thinkbook P16. This is a model very similar to the Legion Slim 7, but that's not important now. What is important is how the cooling system works. As you can see, the sidevents are gone and only the vents on the back remain. Additionally, the vents now blow air towards the vapour chamber on the inside, instead to the outisde on the sides. This design frees up the sides for more ports and, according to Lenovo, results in better cooling capabilites, less noise and lower surface temperatures. The new system isn't universally deployed to all models yet, however plenty of devices adopt it. Let's get to the individual models now.
LOQ
It replaced the IdeaPad Gaming in 2023, it gets a redesign and an old CPU. Why am I saying old instead of new? Because the LOQ ditches the 13th gen Intel CPUs and will be shipped with 12th gen Intel HX CPUs instead. No, not a typo, you will have the opportunity to buy a 12th gen Intel HX CPU in a 2024 laptop. Apparently Lenovo had too big of a stock of old Intel CPUs and want to get rid of them. Additionally, the LOQ also gets the new cooling system. Take a look.
From the front From the sides. Notice the lack of vents on the sides, with ports on the right and nothing on the left. The rear exhaust is also redesign, becoming more aesthatically pleasing if you ask me. It looks more mature. From above. Similar to a Legion now.Legion 5
Nothin changed here, but I'm still attaching some pictures for you. Reminder that Intel H CPUs are apparently ditched. No Meteor Lake here either, the Legion 5 will ship with 14th gen HX. Take this with a grain of salt, tho.
The front The sides From aboveY7000P
This is an entirely new model. It is not yet clear to me which position of the lineup it will take. Based on specs it may be a midrange model. It is also possible that it will only be available in China, I don't know yet. It is expected to be a main seller there, with a starting price of 8499 Yuan (=1150 USD). Based on the specs rumoured to ship with, it rivals a Pro 5 with mid-level specs. A possible config I've found is equipped with:
Intel 7 14650HX
RTX 4060 (top GPU)
16 gigs of RAM
1TB SSD
1600p, 16:10 screen
165 Hz
350 nits
100% SRGB
80Wh battery.
The main selling point of this one is the improved cooling solution with value-oriented specs in a thicker chassis (I don't know how thick it will be, it looks like it's around 1 inch/2,5 cm). Chassis materials used unknown. Pictures below.
Front Sides and rear. Notice the port placement: 2 USB-C and audio jack on the left, 2 USB-A on the right, HDMI and charging in the back Left side Right side RearY9000X aka Slim 7
Chassis is a bit reworked here, it adopts the new cooling system. Apparently it also ships with Intel HX, too. Nothing else to comment here, take a look.

I can't even be bothered to upload any pictures, it looks literally the same as last year. The only thing changed is the new 14th gen Intel HX CPU across the board. There were very small differences in size last year, I don't know if that changes or not. Probably not, given that the Pro 7 has a different internal layout due to the higher tiered GPUs used, which need a different cooling solution.
Y9000K aka Legion 9
Again, only a CPU upgrade. Nothing else.
That's it. Thank you for your time, hope you will find this useful. If there is anything, I will tell you. Have a good one!
