Hey, enthusiasts. I got my first Thinkpad (yay), but it has a few issues. On first power up, my laptop sounds a 3-3-1 beep sequence. There is no RAM in the slots (4GB soldered), so I thought that wouldn't be an issue. I then checked the CMOS and it was intact, except for the CMOS connector ribbon from about where the hinge is. When I plug that in, it completely kills my laptop and I can't power it on (I revived it with a cool trick from a little cheat code I found)
Will I need to order a new CMOS cable/battery? Or is this a motherboard issue?

3-3-1 Short beep error code.
This error means either problem with RAM or motherboard. I would advise to remount memory module in DIMM and if this won't help, reinstall old trackpad. If then it boot, then it seems, that this one particullar 3-button trackpad might be not compatible with your X240. More on reddit.com

Today while installing a new trackpad (3 button) onto my x240 I encountered this beep error code and a blank screen. If anybody could help me solve this issue I would be grateful, Thanks!

This error means either problem with RAM or motherboard. I would advise to remount memory module in DIMM and if this won't help, reinstall old trackpad. If then it boot, then it seems, that this one particullar 3-button trackpad might be not compatible with your X240.

AFAIK you need to reuse the original X240 flatcable, not the X250 one that might come with that new trackpad.

April 20, 2019 - Remove the RAM from one slot, then try to boot. If it beeps 1-3-3-1, swap the RAM module in the same slot and try to boot. If it beeps with either RAM module, that slot is at fault. Do the same in the other slot. Have you got the correct RAM, PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333)?

[FIXED] I've just installed and msata SSD on the msata slot in my X230. I booted up once when the PC was half unassembled and everything worked fine, so I finished closing it and now when I boot it up I get a 1 3 3 1 code in bios and the machine doesn't POST. What cloud be the problem? Thanks in advance for your help

Check ram installed OK. Try with one stick at a time. Also check all connections are in right, fan, battery, etc.

Leave it disconnected from the chassis and just plug the parts in and power it on. Don't hurt yourself, but it helps save time to review, "does this turn on or not?" So you don't have to keep re-assembling it. Plug HDMI cord into video port if you don't want to connect it to internal display.
