Hi @rer97391 · Try a full power refresh and check if that fixes it. · Disconnect the power from the PC. · Open the case and then locate and remove the RTC coin cell battery¹ from the motherboard. · Go to p.35 (39 of 68 pdf) of the hardware maintenance manual to view the procedure to remove/replace the coin cell battery from the motherboard · Press and hold the PC Power On button operated for a full 30 seconds and then release it. · Reinsert the RTC coin cell battery (+ve on top as marked on the battery), reassemble the PC, connect power to the PC and check if it turns on OK and you can get into BIOS or if the error is still there. · If it turns on there may be a message stating that the Date and Time are incorrect. This is normal as the BIOS has been reset by the above procedure. Once the Date and Time have been corrected, the message won't appear the next time the PC is started. · ¹ When the RTC coin cell battery is out, measure its voltage. If it is <2.5V DC or if the battery is >4-5 years old, replace it. The battery model number is on the battery e.g. CR2032. If it is a CR2032, these are commonly available everywhere, e.g. supermarkets. Answer from jayeff on ifixit.com

On a Lenovo ThinkCentre M920q, a 3 long, 1 short beep usually indicates a memory or motherboard fault. Since a new DDR4 SODIMM didn’t fix it, try this: · Reseat the RAM firmly and test one stick at a time in each slot. · Clear CMOS (remove the coin-cell battery for 5–10 minutes). · Check for bent pins, debris, or damage on the board. · Ensure the correct 65W/90W Lenovo power adapter is used. · If the beeps persist and there’s no display or BIOS access, the motherboard is likely faulty. Given the $4 purchase, board replacement may cost more than it’s worth.

February 23, 2023 -

Has anyone experienced any issues with these desktops suddenly failing to boot?

I have 2 that have displayed this issue within a week of each other.

Manual has:

BEEP SYMPTOM - 3 short beeps followed by 1 long beep.

BEEP MEANING - Memory not detected.

SUGGESTED ACTIONS - Investigate memory subsystem. Ensure that any memory module(s) are properly seated in the connectors.

I have tried new ram and different slots.

I am suspicious of an update that has broken the firmware.

Answer: That beeping is called as POST(power-on self-test) check. The 3 short 1 long beep indicates usually indicates ‘extended memory failure’ specific to IBM it indicates video card issue sometimes Any kind of beep except single beep is hardware failure.

April 19, 2024 -

Hello to you good sirs and madames!

I have strange not-consistent problem. ThinkCentre M920z doesn't boot most of the times (sometimes it boots and I can't find any reasonable pattern). When in doesn't boot, it gives 3 long and 1 short beeps (sometimes it makes 3 long 1 short 3 long 1 short). It is not RAM problem (3 short 1 long) as far as I concerned. Tried searching web, there are some topics about this beep code, but no solutions and answers for what it could be (only assumptions it's either CPU or Motherboard).

Any suggestions or help would be appriciated! Thanks in advance!

P.S. Sorry for any mistakes - english is not my first language.

June 19, 2020 - I've had this Lenovo Thinkcentre m82 for over a year now. And it came to thought that why wouldn't I upgrade it. So I bought a Geforce GTX 1050 TI Mini from Zotac and it works perfectly, but the main problem is the RAM I bought. The motherboard I have has dual channel RAMS so it would make sense ...
