Hi @rer97391 · Try a full power refresh and check if that fixes it. · Disconnect the power from the PC. · Open the case and then locate and remove the RTC coin cell battery¹ from the motherboard. · Go to p.35 (39 of 68 pdf) of the hardware maintenance manual to view the procedure to remove/replace the coin cell battery from the motherboard · Press and hold the PC Power On button operated for a full 30 seconds and then release it. · Reinsert the RTC coin cell battery (+ve on top as marked on the battery), reassemble the PC, connect power to the PC and check if it turns on OK and you can get into BIOS or if the error is still there. · If it turns on there may be a message stating that the Date and Time are incorrect. This is normal as the BIOS has been reset by the above procedure. Once the Date and Time have been corrected, the message won't appear the next time the PC is started. · ¹ When the RTC coin cell battery is out, measure its voltage. If it is <2.5V DC or if the battery is >4-5 years old, replace it. The battery model number is on the battery e.g. CR2032. On a Lenovo ThinkCentre M920q, a 3 long, 1 short beep usually indicates a memory or motherboard fault. Has anyone experienced any issues with these desktops suddenly failing to boot?
I have 2 that have displayed this issue within a week of each other.
Manual has:
BEEP SYMPTOM - 3 short beeps followed by 1 long beep.
BEEP MEANING - Memory not detected.
SUGGESTED ACTIONS - Investigate memory subsystem. Ensure that any memory module(s) are properly seated in the connectors.
I have tried new ram and different slots.
I am suspicious of an update that has broken the firmware.

Hello to you good sirs and madames!
I have strange not-consistent problem. ThinkCentre M920z doesn't boot most of the times (sometimes it boots and I can't find any reasonable pattern). When in doesn't boot, it gives 3 long and 1 short beeps (sometimes it makes 3 long 1 short 3 long 1 short). It is not RAM problem (3 short 1 long) as far as I concerned. Tried searching web, there are some topics about this beep code, but no solutions and answers for what it could be (only assumptions it's either CPU or Motherboard).
Any suggestions or help would be appriciated! Thanks in advance!
P.S. Sorry for any mistakes - english is not my first language.

Additional information I got while trying to find some patterns. If RAM is installed in DIMM1 port - beeps comes almost immideatly after start. If RAM is installed in DIMM2 slot - beeps come after 10-15 seconds. Also, not sure, but looks like it can sometimes boot if it is cold. I went to eat and when come back - it menaged to boot one time. I run some test (with built-in Lenovo software) - every test passed (cpu and memory test were short, not full). I am running out of any ideas what else to do and check. :c

Ok, so just for future generations. Looks like it was corrupted BIOS. Somehow menaged to update BIOS to latest version - problem disappeared. :)

Ive had my computer for about 3 1/2 years now. For the last week or so ive been getting the error code 3 short beeps one long and then after a restart it works. Now its doing the same pattern but wont turn on after reboot. I cant find the solution online. What do?

I solved mine, after testing the ram didnt solve it, I tried a new power supply and now it boots. I think I had too many USB devices running at once and it fried the power adapter, Now I have uprated my power so hopefully doesnt happen again.

Have you messed with the ram at all recently? ensure ram modules are seated correctly try removing and reseating try moving into different slots if you have more than one ram stick, one might be broken. Remove one at a time to see if it comes right (the removed one is the broken one) replace ram or borrow someone else’s to confirm before purchasing new ram
