May 15, 2025I do not recommend the Carbon X1 Gen 10 - this laptop is quite a disappointment.
Hello, Another point of view. I come from the Mac world (25 years without touching a Windows computer). A few months ago, I bought a ThinkPad X1 Gen 10 (OLED, 32gb). I was very surprised to find that this machine was not at all adapted to run Windows 11 Pro: overheating, fan on full blast... I don't even understand why they sell it in this configuration. But... my goal was to install Linux on it, and I have to say that in this configuration, my ThinkPad gives me complete satisfaction. No overheating, fast, I love the keyboard (better than Apple keyboards in my opinion). More on reddit.com

Just looked up the Lenovo return policy. 30 day, original packaging, no restocking fees. I'm going to pull the trigger on an i5-1235u x1 Carbon. Supposedly a 2-3 week delivery window.
First thing I'll do is charge and battery test. I'll report back.

I already have a MacBook Air M2, but I need another laptop for personal work that runs Windows. I’ll often be carrying both laptops together, so I’m looking for something lightweight, with good performance, no major heat issues, and preferably a newer aspect ratio (16:10).
Budget is around $450.
I found an X1 Carbon Gen 9 with an i5 for under $400 — is this a good option for my needs, or is there another ThinkPad in this price range you’d recommend?

I picked up a X1 Carbon Gen 9 for $300, perfect condition (i5, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD), on ebay. You may be able to find a newer model of X1 Carbon for that price. Switching from a Macbook Pro 2019 and I like my X1C much better.
