Levothyroxine Dosage Guide: Are you on the Right Dose?
1 month ago - The net result is that both are very easy to absorb and highly bioavailable (18). Many patients report an improvement in their symptoms simply when making the switch from levothyroxine or Synthroid to Tirosint. Compared to other thyroid medications (I’m looking at you, NDT formulations), it’s relatively easy to get your doctor to prescribe Tirosint medications because they are more similar to levothyroxine. If you are unable to switch to 50mcg increments of levothyroxine or if your provider isn’t willing to switch you to Tirosint there are still other steps you can take to improve absorption.

r/Hypothyroidism on Reddit: Am I taking an insanely higher than average dose of levothyroxine?
May 4, 2022 -
Completely out of curiosity, what is your daily levo dose?
Last year I had my thyroid removed (due to Graves Disease) so now I’m hypo, and over that time I was prescribed levo at a 150mcg dose, had it lowered it to 125, now I’m back at 150.
I see folks on here saying things like they take 50mcg like that’s a lot? Is it though? Is the dosage amount generally lower for people with thyroids than without? Forgive me if these are stupid questions, I honestly know little about hypothyroidism, but I want to learn more.

You can’t judge by what other people take. MAXIMUM doses are calculated by body mass but the amount of thyroid function you have will, inform your dosage. So it’s perfectly possible for a very large person to be on a small dose because they have a lot if thyroid function. And if you have no thyroid, your dose will be a lot higher. Personally, it’s something I let my doctor worry about.

I take 100mcg daily-1 and 150mcg on the one day a week. It really depends on your body, absorption, etc, a lot of people might be taking lower doses cause that's all their thyroid needs to make up the difference, I guess.
