Here it is, the review you've all been waiting for. Buckle up. Chapter 1 - New Beginnings Delivered and installed within 10 min, easy-peasy. Very modern and sleek looking, feels very sturdy, heavy as hell. The control dial spins like butter, LCD screen is clean and bright. Dare I say, sexy. Started things off with Tub Clean mode to clean out any residual manufacturing goo. Didn't use any cleaners, just the hot water / steam / burn off. Ran without issue and finished bone dry, but with a slight smell of something burning off. I'd assume this is to be expected with a first heating. First real test was 5 bath towels, running on Towel mode. In this mode (and most modes from what I can tell) turning on "Dry" is optional, which I didn't realize. Ran the cycle and was greeted with damp towels, a realization of my mistake, and then ran the independent "Dry" cycle. Towels came out perfectly dry, though again the very slight burn-off smell. No vibrating or banging around during either cycle. Next up I got a bit feisty and tried "AI Wash/Dry" mode with a mixed batch of socks, shorts and a couple hoodies for good measure. This time both cycles ran in-series, and the clothing came out smelling fresh and bone dry. Again the slightest burn-off smell, though getting progressively better. Wanted to test "Bedding" mode so threw in sheets and pillow cases. Turned on Dry in the options. All good, and by this point the burn-off smell seemed to be gone. Chapter 2 - Someone Grab my Xanax Next is where things got interesting. Full duvet cover, straight raw-dogging this appliance. Now let me set the stage: this duvet cover is a f-ing tank, made of some weird and heavy hipster material, possibly hemp but I dunno you'd need to ask my wife. Ran again on Bedding mode w/ Dry engaged and definitely a little bit of vibration during spin cycle; nothing crazy but could definitely hear it outside of the laundry room. Finished the dry cycle and the duvet cover was still pretty damp. Ran a second "Dry" cycle and this is where something weird happened; timer on the LCD counted down as the cycle proceeded, but once it got to "1 min" left on the cycle it stayed there for a long time......it would not finish, just kept slowly spinning the tub. I tried to stop/pause the cycle, which worked, though the tub remained locked. My duvet cover was straight-up held captive. Switched the machine off and back on, which reset back to the opening sequence, though the door remained locked. At this point I was thinking I'd need to pay ransom or something to get my duvet cover back. Consulted the user manual and didn't find anything about a manual unlock, cried, then decided that I refused to be out-smarted by this AI-driven behemoth. I was curious if I forced the unit to drain that it may unlock, even though it was in dry mode, so I started a "Quick Wash" cycle which upon starting I immediately heard some drainage. Like magic, the door then unlocked, I paused the cycle and I was finally able to save my terrified, yet bone dry, duvet cover. By this point my anxiety was peaked and my energy was exhausted, so I went to bed. Chapter 3 - Return of the Jedi Next day started with AI-Wash/Dry for a mixed tub of pillow cases, all types of different materials from my wife's collection of useless decorative pillows that occupy every flat surface in our home; all finished clean and dry. Right after I tested Active Wear mode, which is wash-only, and my Lululemon's have never smelled better. Finished off with a stinky Pomeranian-hair-filled dog bed cover on Bedding mode which finished dry and clean as a whistle. You're welcome. More on reddit.com

I had an LG one in an apartment, and I had a bad experience. If I have several loads to do, then I have to wait until the dry cycle is done before I can load the next. But most importantly, the clothes just never got dry. I don't know what we were doing wrong, but the condenser(?) didn't seem to do a good job, and the water tank never filled up. I am not sure if it was just a defective unit, because when we brought this up to management, they replaced it with a separate washer and dryer setup. More on reddit.com

I've been considering heat pump all in one units as well and I'm likely going to get this new model from LG over the GE offering . For the following reasons: The LG has a self cleaning condenser. It will actually spray water over the coils at certain intervals to clean it. The LG has a built in heater and steam. LG has been making all-in-one washers like this for much longer. The GE seems to have been designed and engineered on a budget. It is quite clear that they took an existing washing machine design and just plopped a heat pump module on the top. That's why it is so much taller than a standard machine. Getting access to clean the condenser is entirely too complicated on the GE . It was not designed with serviceability in mind (again, low design/engineering budget). Condenser access matters a lot because it appears that the GE has big issues with lint getting past the filter . The one thing I like about the GE is that it has lots of buttons on the control panel and doesn't require as much clicking and twirling to change options. More on reddit.com
