This is our 3rd fridge in 9 years.
The same thing happened 2.5 years ago.
Our LG French door fridge with bottom freezer stopped cooling yesterday. The Smart Diagnosis says there are no codes. We emptied it, unplugged and flipped the breaker and then plugged it back in and left it for 13+ hours. Temp went up 11 degrees inside the fridge.
Repair people can't come out for more than a week and charge $150 just to diagnose the problem.
Do we wait or do we buy yet another fridge and take advantage of black Friday deals?
Anything else we could try?

Check to see if the compressor is running as well as well the Condesor fan. If they are, the compressor has failed. It's very common on LG fridges with the linear compressor. You can call LG, and they'll cover it under warranty. Due to a class action lawsuit, it's covered for 10 years. Labor is covered only up until 5 years, though. Keep in mind it can take a while to have to repaired.

LG warrants their compressors for 10 years and their labor for repairs for 5 years. LG French door refrigerators had a class action lawsuit against them for failing compressors. Ours failed just like yours did at 3 years. Call LG and they will send someone out to replace the compressor if it's defective (and it likely is). It shouldn't cost you anything. The number will be on the label inside the refrigerator near the top shelf, right side. According to the tech, the new compressors are not more reliable than the failing ones so you might get another 3-5 years out of it after it's repaired. We are fortunate to have an old Amana in the garage for a backup. It's going on 30 years without failure. No more LG for me (Samsung is equally unreliable).

We need a counter depth fridge for our kitchen. Local appliance shop was recommending either an LG or a Fridigaire French door style fridge. The particular LG has door in door and an extra drawer that can be either fridge or freezer temps. Price $3100.
We left to think it over and in the meantime all I read on Reddit is “don’t buy LG or Samsung”.
Wire cutter generally recommends LG based on their survey data.
I get that they’re all junk… but I’d like my $3k to go as far as possible. Should be we just get a Bosch 800 instead?

Yes, they are that bad. My LG’s compressor just died being only 2.5 years old. Parts and labor are fully covered for 5 years. However, I’m 3 weeks with a broken fridge and am no closer to getting it fixed. Calling customer service 3-4 times per week for updates. The first two technicians LG scheduled never showed up or even called like they were supposed to. For the past 5 days LG has been trying to identify another repair company. I live 20 mins from Philly in a populated area. If they can’t find a tech here I can’t imagine someone getting this resolved in a more rural area. Repair companies do not want to work on LG appliances. It’s been a nightmare and is starting to effect the family peace. Nothing I can do but consistently call the support line. I hear that Whirlpool and GE have a more reliable reputation. I’m also going to avoid linear compressors on my next refrigerator. Edit: I read all of those mainstream “reviews” before purchasing my LG. Thought I was making an informed purchase. Look up LG’s class action lawsuits. Two in the last ten years (2014 and 2019) regarding their compressors. Wouldn’t count on them having redesigned anything. I bought mine a year after the latest lawsuit (back ordered from the manufacturer at the time) and it still failed in less than 3 years.
