We have a 6 year old Bosch refrigerator and I want to take a sledgehammer to it. It's a gigantic piece of junk, worst $2000 we've ever spent on an appliance. The ice maker spews ice all over the floor, when it's not totally jammed up. The water dispenser's nozzle lines up with about half the glasses we have, the rest of them get you a wet hand or wet floor. The ice maker moans and groans for minutes on end sometimes, doing who knows what. It's the noisiest fridge I've ever been around. So we're looking for a new one.
We have a few requirements, mostly due to the space we have to work with:
Must be about 25cu ft, or more
Cabinet depth (27.5" from the back to the hinge), and 36" wide
No handles (right side is almost up against a wall, handles prevent full opening of door)
Must be able to open drawers with door at 90 degrees (can't with the bosch)
Must have adjustable height feet that go up at least an inch. 150 year old house and nothing is level. It's almost an inch out over the width of the fridge. We have to have a piece of wood under the bosch because the feet only go up a small amount and it's ugly.
Water dispenser in door is nice, but not a must-have if it takes away significantly from freezer space
We don't need to make tons of ice. Some of the fridges I've seen have enough ice-making capability for a small restaurant.
Budget: ~$2000-$2500
Our current fridge is a side-by-side, and I feel like that really limits the freezer space. I really didn't like the previous fridge, which had a single large door on top and a bottom drawer freezer. But it looks like newer refrigerators have better drawer freezer layouts so we're open to that. I do think a single large door on top is just inefficient though - seems like a huge waste to open the whole thing to get one thing out.
We're in the US. I'm open to recommendations! I've looked at some LGs and they seem nice but we've never bought any of their appliances so I don't know anything about them in terms of reliability or build quality.
So I’m doing a full appliance shopping set and I’m stuck on what fridge to buy. Consumer Report’s 4 best fridges are all LG fridges.
Anyone have any insight on this? I’ve always though LG and Samsung were hot garbage?
If you check CR you’ll see that the top four French Door fridges are LG.
I'm looking at buying a new side-by-side refrigerator and for obvious reasons the LG insta-view one has caught my attention.
However I would like to hear from some of you, who have actually owned this fridge and/or know someone who has one. The review sites usually just take 30 minutes reading the spec sheet and miring the exterior which leads to a not so helpful review.
A few questions to start the conversation:
Is the insta-view glass just a gimmick? Or is it actually useful, day-to-day? Do you still use it after a few months?
Was it worth the extra $300 for you?
How is the ice? I know fridge ice can taste strange sometimes...
In general, if you own the fridge then I'd love to hear your general impressions.
