LG Warranty Warning
LG Warranty Service for a 2021 Refrigerator
What is the manufactures warranty? some LG refrigerators have the 10-year warranty on the compressors? null
LG refrigerator unrepairable - 2 months out of warranty - small claims worth it?
To my untrained eye, this says the motor is covered for 10 years. I bought this hunk o junk 4 years ago, so it should be covered. Alas the motor failed this week (diagnosed by a professional technician) and LG’s support insists that the warranty is 1 single year, and they no longer honor old warranty terms.
A worthless warranty, and a very serious warning to those who may be considering an LG appliance, they know they suck and had to restrict the warranty to 1 year to avoid paying out when they inevitably take a crap after a year or 2.
Hello, I am typically a lurker but I wanted to share a horror story about LG's warranty service to warn others.
So the home I purchased in 2022 came with an LG fridge purchased in 2021. I thought it was a great fridge but there came troubles. The freezer would sometimes stop working and defrost contents as well as stop making ice. It only happened once in a while. I called in a local appliance repair company and was charged 175$ just for them to tell me the fridge is working fine or to call them when the problem occurs again, which is unpredictable.
So I resorted to calling LG warranty repair, and they said the fridge was out of warranty by SEP 2023. Alright cool, so out of warranty department came in and said they will charge me 650$ for the labor and parts. HOWEVER, if it is a problem with the compressor, they will REFUND ME sicne that has a 10 year warranty. And what do you know, it was the compressor that was the problem. So the technician replaced the compressor and other parts because it was the standard procedure to do so. Keep in mind I had to give them all my card info before they even showed up. So here I am thinking I'll have a free repair. NOPE. A few days later i get a receipt for... refrigerator gaskets/sealers! 587$ worth of labor and parts!
I have called LG out of warranty department since September 2023 to get the refund which has been authorized by managers in October 2023. It's December and I still have not received it. One dude tells me it will get mailed, another dude tell me it's going to be refunded back on my card. Most recent call was last week Dec 12 or so, and I was supposed to have money back on my card. I still do not. I think I'll just talk with my bank and issue a charge back if possible.
Looking to see if a small claims case would be worth it. I would ask for $1500 (half price of fridge, $300 lost food, $300 eating out/ice/gas/going to store daily)
LG refrigerator purchased may 2018. First call for repair August 3rd 2023.
LG warranty is 5 years for parts and labor, 10 years on compressor.
LG agreed to send technician out to repair under warranty at no cost.
It is now 9/30 (57 days later) and the fridge is not fixed.
9 total visits from technicians in which every time they left they said it should be fixed now. Multiple parts/multiple times were replaced. Still not fixed. Technician deemed it not repairable.
LG said since I am out of warranty, there is nothing they can do. I am looking to see if small claims would be worth pursuing to get some compensation. The fridge cost $1819. The average life time of a fridge is 12 years (does implied warranty have a good argument here?) Also tossing $300 of food waste, eating out for atleast half the meal, going to grocery store almost daily, not having ice and wasting my time opening my schedule for 4 hour windows for repair 9 times over 57 days.
I do have legal plan with my employee and they could help with a small claims file. Would this be worth pursuing or should I just take the loss, buy a new fridge, and never buy LG appliance again?
