r/appliancerepair on Reddit: Lg washer/dryer all in one (wm3488hw) combo not drying clothes
October 17, 2023 -

My lg washer/dryer I own is not drying my clothes. I replaced the drain pump because it was not draining and cleaned filter but still not drying. I opened the machine and cleaned inside the machine and removed all lint. I also tested the heating element and it seems to be heating up but clothes still are wet. Any advice on what other areas I can clean or test to get the machine to dry properly.

September 20, 2020 - I have an LG WM3488HW washer dryer combo that is not drying. I have a LG wm3488hw washer/dryer combo unit that 2.5 years old. (Out of warrantee)

The drying function requires several cycles to dry to the clothes. It's gotten worse over time.

There are no error and the drain trap is clear. It doesn't have a vent.

What are my options?

Is opening up the rear of the unit and flushing it with a hose a viable solution?

r/appliancerepair on Reddit: Bane of My Existence, LG WM3488HW Washer/Dryer Combo Please help 😱
August 29, 2025 -

My apartment has an WM3488HW LG washer dryer combo. It has a history of going through drain pump motors every year . But recently, my landlord finally bought in an appliance contractor and they replaced both the drain and recirculation pump.

Afterwards it was functioning great on the wash and dry cycle and would dry everything till it was bone dry. I do about 2 or max 3 loads per week

Recently I got a code that indicated “TCL” so I ran the tub clean cycle with an afresh tablet as the manual states to do. The appliance guy had told me to put the tablet in the tub and run the cycle so that’s what I did.

After that I went through one or two loads as normal and they came out perfectly dry as well.

Now the subsequent 2 loads that I’ve done have come out still damp. There’s still some conversation and dampness on the door, and the inside of the seal, and the clothes themselves are not all the way dry

I ran the smart diagnosis with the app and it just said that there was an excessive amount of laundry. There was not an excessive amount of laundry, especially in the second load that I ran. I specifically made that load smaller than usual.

I only use like 1 or 2 teaspoons of HE laundry detergent and a sprinkle of borax . I don’t use any other products in the laundry. And I double check and make sure the drain pump filter is completely clean all the time.

Can someone please help me out with something I can do on my end for this?

I literally have so much stress about this machine that it I get physically sick with anxiety when I run it

Machine was not drying anything really well for the last two months. I drained hose and cleaned pump filter, still didn't help. Saw a video online about taking top off and how the plastic vent pipe might be clogged. I was going on a 3 week road trip so I decided to do that when I came back. One week later my cousin who was house sitting said machine is making a weird noise and OE code is showing up. It sounds like drain pump motor is on it's last legs and needs replacing. The problem is I never had an error code before. So does this machine have two things that need to be fixed? I am worried that a repairman is going to come and replace the pump and we still have the issue with clothes not drying.

r/AppliancePros on Reddit: LG WM3488HW Washer/Dryer Combo: Damp Clothes, Leak, and Cat Hair Buildup - Repair or Replace?
July 27, 2025 -

Hey r/AppliancePros, looking for some advice on my LG WM3488HW washer/dryer combo unit and a persistent issue with lint/cat hair and now, puddles.

Pic inside: https://imgur.com/a/att4Wdp

Background:

  • Unit: LG WM3488HW (Washer/Dryer Combo)

  • Purchased: January 2021

  • Usage: Used by various tenants, often with cats (so lots of pet hair).

  • Key Feature: As a combo unit, it does not have a traditional, accessible lint trap like separate dryers. Lint is meant to be flushed.

  • Previous Repair: Paid LG CAD $300+ last year for a "grinder sound" issue (fixed under their flat fee service).

Current Problem: My current tenant reports clothes are coming out warm and damp after a full cycle, and after a recent wash, they found a small puddle underneath the unit.

What I've Done So Far:

  1. Went to the unit today.

  2. Removed the top panel.

  3. Removed the fan and condenser coil covers/areas along the top.

  4. Found and cleaned out a significant amount of cat hair and lint from these areas.

  5. Noticed a lot more lint/hair deeper down, going towards the rear drum area, which I couldn't access without major disassembly.

  6. Wiped down the inside of the front door gasket, also saw lint buildup behind the drum holes (the inaccessible "outer drum" area where water drains).

  7. Reassembled the unit.

  8. Tenant ran a load – clothes still came out damp, and that's when the puddle was noticed.

My Suspicions:

  • There's likely a massive amount of accumulated cat hair/lint deeper inside the condenser/drainage system, possibly in the outer tub area or drain pump, causing drying inefficiency and now drainage issues (the puddle).

My Questions/Dilemma:

  1. Professional Repair/Cleaning: Should I get a professional to do a full, deep clean of the condenser, outer drum, drain lines, etc.?

    • Option A: LG's Flat Fee Service (again): If I pay LG another flat fee (approx. CAD $300-350?), will they perform this level of deep cleaning as part of their repair service for a "not drying well" and "puddle" issue? Or do they just fix a specific component and leave the cleaning to me/another party? (My experience last time was purely component replacement for the sound).

    • Option B: Independent Appliance Pro: Should I look for an independent appliance repair technician who might be more focused on a thorough cleaning for this type of issue?

  2. Buy New? My unit is ~4.5 years old. Is it worth continually repairing this problem if it's going to keep recurring with tenant usage and cat hair?

    • I saw a Midea MLC31N5AWW for CAD $999. My concern is that it also appears to be a combo unit without a traditional lint trap, meaning I'd likely face the exact same problem with cat hair buildup over time. Is this accurate for most washer/dryer combos?

  3. Tenant Education: Is it reasonable (and effective) to ask tenants to shake out pet hair from clothes before putting them in the washer, given the unit's design? Or is that "too much" to ask?

Any advice from those familiar with these combo units, especially regarding deep clogs and LG's service model, would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Examine the lint filter: A clogged lint filter can restrict airflow and affect the drying process. Locate the lint filter, usually located near the front or top of the machine, and clean it thoroughly.

r/appliancerepair on Reddit: LG WM3488HW Washer/Dryer Combo: Damp Clothes, Leak, and Cat Hair Buildup - Repair or Replace?
February 7, 2025 -

I'm a landlord in Canada, and I'm struggling with my LG WM3488HW washer/dryer combo (purchased Jan 2021) in a rental unit. It's used by tenants with cats, so there's significant pet hair in the laundry. The machine has no built-in lint trap, which is causing issues. Here's the situation:

Pic inside: https://imgur.com/a/att4Wdp

  • Current Issues:

    • Clothes come out warm but damp after drying, which my tenant says is a recent problem.

    • After a load, I noticed a small puddle under the unit near the front.

    • There's a ton of lint/pet hair buildup in hard-to-reach areas (condenser coil, filter area, and behind the outer drum where water drains). I cleaned the top condenser and fan areas but couldn't access the drum without major disassembly.

    • Last year, I paid LG ~CAD 300 for a flat-fee repair for a grinder sound (possibly drain pump-related).

  • What I’ve Done:

    • Took off the top, cleaned the condenser coil and fan, and wiped the door gasket, but lint/hair remains in inaccessible spots.

    • Tenant ran a normal cycle after my cleaning, but clothes are still came out damp, and the puddle appeared.

  • My Dilemma:

    1. Repair: Should I hire a pro to clean the LG or another service like iCare Appliance to Repair) to clean the condensation tank/outer drum and fix the drying/leak issues? Will LG’s flat-fee service (~CAD 300) include a thorough cleaning, or should I go with a local service instead? Estimated repair cost in CAD?

    2. Replace: Should I replace it? I found a Midea MLC31N5AWW for CAD 999 at Canadian Appliance Source, but it has no lint trap, so I’m worried about cat hair buildup recurring. Any affordable compact combos with lint traps you recommend?

    3. Tenant Maintenance: Is it reasonable to ask tenants to shake out laundry outside to reduce cat hair? I’m planning to tell them to run the TUB CLEAN cycle monthly too.

  • Questions for the Community:

    • Has anyone dealt with similar drying/leak issues on this LG model? What fixed it?

    • How do you clean the condensation tank or outer drum on these ventless combos?

    • Any experience with the Midea MLC31N5AWW or other budget-friendly combos in Canada?

    • Tips for managing pet hair in machines without lint traps?

Any advice on whether to repair or replace, or how to handle this with tenants, would be greatly appreciated! I’m in Canada, if that helps with repair service or model recommendations.

Thanks!
