I don’t typically buy any products with integrated LEDs. Too many incidents of the driver or something failing, and impossible to fix or too time confusing to find replacements. I stick with products that have replaceable LED bulbs. More on reddit.com

Honestly, IKEA makes the simplest and most elegant mount-on-wall mirror cabinets I've found. It would seem a shame to lose your existing cabinet simply for the light! You can always block out the gap behind a new, shallower light. It can be a piece of wood painted your wall color or, better, covered with a matching piece of stainless steel trim. You'll always see the line, but I promise you no one else will. That's the match-it-to-make-it disappear option. The other way to go is to make the "mismatch" more prominent so that it looks intentional. This might be as simple as adding a bit of material *below* the new fixture so that it stands off the top of the cabinet. Visually this would read as "cabinet with light on it" rather than "cabinet with a slightly too short light". Also, check back to IKEA; might they now have dimmable lights? More on reddit.com

I think it partially depends on what works for your bathroom layout, but when I remodeled I opted for a hanging cabinet/shelf instead, like this and just used a regular wall-mounted mirror above the sink. But you can also get recessed mirrors that don't really look like medicine cabinets per se but still swing out with some shallow storage. IMO, the big boxy obvious medicine cabinets look pretty dated. More on reddit.com

You're paying for it. You want a medicine cabinet, tell him to get you a damn medicine cabinet. If you want it purple with pink poka dots, have him get exactly that. That said I don't have one in my master bathroom and shelving and drawers work fine. It's all about what the customer wants, not what the contractor wants. More on reddit.com
