r/applehelp on Reddit: Liquid has been detected in lightning port - didn’t see until morning
June 19, 2018 -

Hi guys, I put my iPhone 11 on charge when I went to sleep last night. I woke up this morning to an uncharged phone displaying the message “liquid has been detected in the lightning connector. Disconnect to allow the connector to dry. Charging now may damage your iPhone.” I unplugged it of course and I tested it to see if it would charge and it appears to be charging fine. I am just concerned because obviously I didn’t see the message last night and I didn’t unplug it.

Am I okay to charge it as normal now if it is able to charge or should I leave it? Is there a possibility that I have damaged my phone?

I went to sleep about 6 hours ago and I unplugged the charger from the phone about 15 minutes ago.

Thanks in advance!

Liquid Detected in Lightning Connector - iFixit Troubleshooting
If the port is definitely dry, and free of conductive debris, it’s possible the port, or the internal assembly it is attached to is faulty. Due to its proximity to the edge of the device, and a plethora of possible entry points, liquid tends to creep in here regardless of water resistance. Open up your device and inspect the lightning port assembly for signs of damage, or liquid entry.
