Simple question. I used to connect my old phone to my tv using a lightning-to-av adapter... then plugging in HDMI. Easy peasy. Worked so great I bought a few adapters for different locations.
Recently wife upgraded me to an iPhone 15 (ugh), which apparently has "USB-C port". So my old lightning-to-av adapters no longer fit.
So the big question - if I buy a "USB-C to Lighting Adapter", will the old av adapters work?

I think that depends on whether or not the old AV adapters use USB protocol to communicate with the phone. Honestly, I'd bite the bullet and get new av adapters since USB-C has official and standardized support for video output. The Lightning implementation was kind of a hack. Or you can just try it and return the USB-C to Lightning adapter if it doesn't work...

I have a nice 25 foot HDMI cable that is begging to be used, but I can't help but feel ripped off paying $55 with tax.

I am trying out AirPlay now (my parents have a box), and it's horribly laggy. Will being connected through HDMI yield faster mirroring? NOVA 3 is basically unplayable with AirPlay.

I was unaware that Apple finally made their own adaptor. Here's the one i use that I ordered from amazon for less than $8 and it comes with a bonus HDMI cable. I've had it for over a year with visual or audio problems.

January 16, 2023 - Don‘t worry. I had the same happening with a cheap Lightning > HDMI adapter. Mirror/video quality was also nowhere near of what I was expecting. The HDMI adapter runs a separate small OS and this is where the splash logo / animation is from. IIRC all cheap cables use some sort of lossy Airplay for video/audio transmission and the HDMI plug runs a software to act as a receiver.
