Since I updated my software to iOS 16 my lightning to hdmi adapter isnt working. It says it needs to download a new firmware but nothing ever gets downloaded. Is anyone else having this problem? I have a place in woods without internet so I watch most of my shows through my tv/iPhone so this is a big problem for me. Is anyone else experiencing this? Anybody have ways to fix??

I had the same issue first time I tried to use mine. I had already disconnected from internet when it gave the download new firmware prompt so nothing ever downloaded. I did find a workaround by turning the phone off and back on again and making sure internet was connected while I plugged it in. Gave it about 5 min and it was ready to go. Hope this helps.

I think it’s time for a Class Action Lawsuit. I know multiple people who have purchased new Apple Lightning adapters and HDMI cables (including myself) thinking this would correct the issue- NO BUENO!! I thought the issue was with my Spectrum TV app since YouTube and other apps worked, so I paid $$ for the Sling TV app and that doesn’t work either. I have spent close to $100 trying to get this issue resolved with buying new HDMI cables and new Apple Lightning adapter. It’s no longer just an annoyance, but a financial issue. I can prove it’s all due to the recent IOS 16 update. All I need to do is borrow my son’s IPhone which is still running 15.7 and it works perfectly with the HDMI cable. I have spoken with Apple Reps and they said they have an open tickle for this. Riiiiight. Some of the comments on this thread are over two months old, so this issue is clearly not being taken seriously by Apple. Imagine all of the people who were told by APPLE the issue was with their HDMI cable and/or Lightning adapter and went out and spent $50 to $100 for new ones. All you have to do is Google “HDMI no longer working after latest Apple update” and you will see multiple comments and complaints with ZERO workarounds. I live in CA, so it should be pretty easy to find an attorney. I’m just beyond frustrated now.

You'll need a special USB-C to HDMI cable, rated for Thunderbolt speeds. I recommend and have purchased this Uni Thunderbolt to HDMI cable from Amazon, which is about $16. You can find cheaper options, but make sure they're rated for either Thunderbolt or a 4K@60Hz display.

Yes, you can connect the dongle to a Thunderbolt port. But the 10Gbps dongle won't magically transform into a 40Gbps Thunderbolt port, as there's circuitry within the dock that allows it to work with your laptop's high-speed Thunderbolt port. However, there's nothing saying that you can't connect the dongle to an available USB-C port on the Thunderbolt dock itself, either. If your laptop has two Thunderbolt ports, you can also attach a Thunderbolt dock to one port, and the dongle to the other.
That solution will add more clutter to your desk, but it might allow you to buy a cheaper, budget dock, too. It's up to you!

June 15, 2025 - All of the offbrand/Apple verified will never work again so you might as well throw them out after this iOS update. I need to buy three separate adapters and Mark them and hopefully never plug them in to the wrong phone. There is no information in the user manual when you get the adapters about this issue, the only way I found out is by mistake a costly one. They could not tell me how long this adapter will be able to work correctly.
