February 26, 2009 - When I worked in Washington, DC, while there was a smattering of summer suits, for the most part 90-95% of the men worn dark wool suits even when over 90 degrees in the DC summer hell. From my travels in places like NYC, Chicago, etc. it seems that this is a general trend. Though I could very well be wrong. I have a few ideas on the cause, I am only a dabbler in fashion history so I might be wrong: (1) Lightweight fabric dominate so people think moving to a summer suit in lighter colors is not necessary.

August 2, 2024Best Suit Material for hot/humid weather?
For anything business formal, Fresco and its ilk for sure. Often called tropical wool or high twist wool, sometimes also traveler wool due to the wrinkle resistance. Pretty much every fabric mill has some variants of it: Fresco by Minnis/Huddersfield, Fox Air by Fox, Ascot 2-ply by Drapers/VBC, and so on. They come in various weights, even some that are too heavy for summer, generally the heavier ones drape better and more durable in the long run, but of course the lighter ones are cooler. For blazer/sport coat, hopsack, mockleno are more textured than plain tropical wool, so they won't look like orphaned suit jackets. If you want something more casual, blends containing silk, linen, and cotton usually have more slubby surfaces and a bit of unevenness in the color (more silk = more sheen, more linen = more slubs). Seersucker is also another choice, traditionally made in cotton, but nowadays you find them in wool blends, or even cashmere too. Pure linen is of course another common pick, but you've ruled that out. More on reddit.com

If you trust the stuff from Forever 21, I just saw this on their website: jacket, pants, and the optional vest. 100% cotton twill according to the site and comes in a nice khaki color. The vest and jacket look awfully cropped though, so you kinda have to be down with that trend. Otherwise maybe worth a look.

I’m awfully new to this so I can’t be certain but i’m pretty sure this is a linen suit. I’ve been searching online but I hate how tight the sleeves are on the jackets sold by places like Banana Republic and RW&CO. The pants are another issue, often looking too form-fitting and lacking the elegance of this look.
Basically, just looking for a nice lightweight suit in a tan to cream-ish color which has a more full or straight cut like this. Something flowey and comfortable for summer lounging, not constricting! If anyone has any suggestions of what online stores to look at, I’d appreciate it.
