But when Sacinos filed bankrupcty, they scared us off. They will still be around though dont worry. HOWEVER FMIL found Tuxedo Junction, in Tampa, and they have a WAYYY nicer tan suit (similar to the one at Sacinos) and its only $100 to rent, everything!!

My husband is a groomsman for our (wealthy) friends’ wedding. We were just informed it will cost over $400 with taxes to rent the suit.
Is this an appropriate amount to expect your bridal party to spend on their suit rentals with no discussion beforehand? My husband is worried the groom will be angry if it is brought up since he is well-off and sometimes doesn’t realize it. (The bride actually refer to themselves as “poor” jokingly so they probably don’t even realize.) They all spent $150 on suits they own (well, pants, shirt, tie, suspenders) for our wedding, so $400 seems excessive to me but we are low-income also.
Is this normal? Should we suck it up and just put it on the credit card? What do y’all think? I really don’t want drama, just stressed about money and wasn’t expecting this much to just rent a suit.

Yikes, you can buy a decent suit for that price! I'd definitely ask them about it (I have a feeling the other groomsmen are thinking the same).

Would not consider this a good idea or price point for a rental. $400 will get you a customized suit from Indochino, which is not a budget brand for suiting. And you get to keep it. Google is telling me even a tux rental would be $100-200, with purchase $400. "Sorry, I should have asked better questions when I accepted the honor of being in your wedding party. Based on current costs, I do not think I can be your groomsman. I would still love to be there to celebrate your wedding."

Hello everyone so men best man and I went out to men’s wearhouse and picked out a suit for rental, comes with all the bells and whistles nice shirt with collar links and what not and came to about 250, now I wear suits fairly often so hearing that for everything sounded reasonable, now after sending info out to the other grooms men most were surprised by that price but we’re fine with it at the end. One who is a women stated that’s more then a bridesmaid and wedding party gift combined that she’s used to…I thought well if my boys can’t pay up I’d be okay with them finding stuff that’s similar but my fiancé understandably disagrees. Basically just seeing if that’s a crazy price and let my groomsman find something cheaper that similar or just say hey if you can’t no big deal but I’ll ask them to switch with somebody else who could (which just by writing that makes me sound like a huge asshole) pic for reference of the suit.

The mistake you made was in not getting budgets before looking around. I have to say, that suit is a nice ensemble! But not if it costs too much. And you really want to avoid replacing a groomsman with someone new who can afford it. Again, this should have been discussed upfront.

Did you ask them ahead of time what their budget would be for your wedding? Are you having a black tie wedding? You picked a dinner jacket which is suitable attire for a black tie wedding. A regular suit would likely be less expensive. Or, you could choose to subsidize their cost if you want to stick with this choice. And yes, that would be a really d---move- to replace someone you asked to stand up for you simply because of their budget.

Because they look great for about 30 seconds then look like a wrinkled paper bag for the rest of the day. What looks cool in a photo shoot doesn’t translate to the real world.

i would tread carefully with linen suits for a wedding because it wrinkles very easily. just going from sitting in the car to the venue could very well get wrinkly enough to show in pictures. maybe look into linen blends with a material that will hold its shape better? in terms of your question, i've seen linen suit jackets (not sure about full suits) at j.crew and banana republic. you could try those stores and something like macy's or bloomingdales's with a lot of brands
