AIR COOLER PROS: Air coolers are more reliable by virtue of simplicity. Even a liquid cooler with a 6 year warranty is going to have very slow evaporation, and are prone to slow deaths from manufacturing errors that are not immediately apparent. Liquid coolers also have many points of failure, from the pump to the hose attachments to the fluid itself gunking up. An air cooler effectively has one point of failure: the fan dying. This is both extremely rare (my computers from the '80s and '90s have their original fans) and very easy to fix by just putting on a new fan. Air cooling is also less expensive at most cooling tiers than liquid cooling due to both less material needed and less complex manufacturing, with best-in-class air coolers available for US$65 (or less on sale) and entry-level air coolers starting at around the cost of Taco Bell lunch for two. LIQUID COOLER PROS: They have higher maximum cooling capacity from being able to dissipate heat over a larger surface area. The larger thermal mass means they can absorb sudden bursty loads more easily and take longer to saturate (though this also means they take longer to cool down once heated.) They have benefits for aesthetics and space fitting - a large air cooler can make it difficult to interact with the top PCI-E slot for example, and some small cases cannot fit large tower coolers at all, necessitating water cooling. Personally, all my (too many) computers are air cooled, because I like slapping a cooler in there and then just not having to think or worry about it anymore, and even my 11900K is comfortably cooled by an inexpensive AK620 cooler. I see the virtues of water cooling, but feel that they are used too often in situations where they are either completely unnecessary or provide little benefit over an air cooler, though there are plenty of situations where they do make sense. EDIT: To clarify, I am referring to closed-loop coolers, or CLCs (also known as AIOs.) Custom loops are outside the realm of the casual builder and one needs to go into custom loops with a lot more knowledge and forethought than just buying an H115i and bolting it to the top of your case. I see a PC I'm thinking of is liquid but I've never owned a liquid cooling PC. Is it hard to work on? Do they tend to have problems that aren't very apparent?

Does the PC your looking at have an AIO (All in one liquid cooler) or custom loop? Here is an image of an AIO cooler. Note that the radiator size can vary. Here is an image of a PC with a Custom loop installed. Custom loops can vary widely in the amount of components they cool and also how many radiators they have and stuff. Different types of coolers and their pros and cons: AIO - Non maintainable, usually will last anywhere from 5-7 years. Better temps than most air coolers. Air cooler - maintainable, Relatively cheap and easy to replace fans when they die. Custom loop - This is the most expensive option. It had the greatest level of customizability. You can cool multiple components at once with one loop, however they can be really expensive. They also require a higher amount of maintenance compared to an AIO or air cooler.

Air cooling or water cooling
Water cooling, especially custom, will have a higher ceiling than air cooling (at least, that can fit in a normal case). That being said, air coolers will handle most chips in most use-cases. When it comes to stuff like the 13900k/s that can suck wattage, you'd only air cool if you are gaming/tuning the CPU (which is always recommended with 13th gen as you lose 1-2% performance for a large drop in wattage. It's as simple as flipping a toggle and testing depending on your BIOS). If you are running synthetics/super-heavy CPU tasks, water cooling might give you the edge you need. Air cooling always wins for the extreme simplicity and reliability; only service parts are paste (years long shelf life) and fans (many more years shelf life with brands like Noctua). It suffices for all but the most extreme normal use cases (WR runs skip water and go straight to LN2 anyways). People also usually overestimate how much cooler they need; I've cooled a stock 10700k (MCE off) on an L9i and a 13600k (slightly undervolted) on both an IS47XT and an Alpenfohn Black Ridge with a bit of overhead for either more wattage (160w) or less cooler (lower fan speeds/even shorter cooler). There's a madman on the SFF discord running a 13900k on an L9i (obviously undervolted, but realistically only losing a bit of performance). A D15/S will do almost every chip in almost every scenario. without your list of your pc parts i cannont say anything which will be better!

i prefer air coolers, but even quality aios are completly fine! for me air cooler wins because of ease replacment! i mean you buy yourself a cooler with one. two, three fans. and base of the air cooler is almoust impossible to destroy yes? and it will last you quite some time! and replacing fan is easy if fan dies yes. now aios if pump dies new aio is needed!

but as i said, quality aio should last 5+ years no problem and yes there is also a water leakage possibility but its minor one! Artic, be quiet!, nzxt, corsair, lian li, phanteks, fractal desing are making quite quality ones and most of them comes with 5 year warranty! cant say for others though, heard about problems on msi and coolermaster ones (some models!) but for me if i would go aio i would pick myself quality option for peace of mind!
