Construction companies require a lot of capital - namely: insurance (general liability, equipment, worker's comp, various other insurance add-ons that may be required such as pollution, marine, railroad. Payroll is very expensive. Let's say you have a crew of four to do the work paid at $30/hr. That's 160 hours worked every week. That's $19,200 per month just in payroll. Do you have capital just to front that? That doesn't even include over time. Then there's tools. What tools and equipment do you have? Rent a manlift for a month and you're looking at $3000 per month before insurance. And diesel fuel ain't cheap for them. You'll need to provide tools for your workers. Then there's materials. As a new contractor vendors will bend you over backwards and demand payment upfront. You're not getting credit for your $10,000 lumber order. And clients? Who do you think you're gonna work for? Projects don't grow on trees for the zero experience company. What I'm trying to say is you are in no position to start a construction company as a college graduate. School doesn't teach you anything about work and it definitely doesn't teach you anything about construction.
