While Hamilton’s use of rap is fairly unique for a musical, it is very much structured like a traditional musical. Lin-Manuel Miranda has great reverence for the musical greats that came before him, often quoting them in his own works (“You’ve got to be carefully taught” in “Aaron Burr, Sir” is a reference to South Pacific; LMM references Cole Porter in the opening number of In the Heights, etc). I know how you feel 🥲 I’ve been hooked on the play and the songs for the past 3 months since I watched it on Disney plus. My commute to work on the train going and coming to work I’ll play the soundtrack. Everytime I watch it I wish I knew about it when it first came out because the Hamilton community was so active on other platforms like tumblr and at one point on tiktok.
