Answer from saman mohamadi on Stack OverflowLive preview icon is invisible
html - Can't access live preview of my files? It says 'command 'livePreview.start.preview.atFile' not found? - Stack Overflow
I have Visual Studio and installed Live Preview but no live preview option
Preview button missing
Videos
For the Live Preview button to show up, two criteria must be met:
- Your section’s “Entries in this section have their own URLs” setting must be checked
- Your section’s “Entry Template” setting must be set to a valid template path
- For Craft 3.2+ pro version, a preview target must be specified. This happens automatically, but might be missing due to a bug. Add a preview target with Primary entry page => {url} to fix this.
Make sure both of those are set correctly, and the Live Preview button will show up.
Have you specified a template to use under that section's settings? If you didn't, the Live Preview button won't show.
Try installing other version of live preview which is six months or older. It worked for me.

I was having the same issue from the start of installing Live Preview. Updating VScode seemed to have fix the issue. You may need to update the VScode application:
- Click the little gear icon found at the bottom of the left side bar (the "Manage" button, under the profile icon).
- There, you may notice a VScode update is available because you'll have an option that reads "Restart to Update" (otherwise it may read "Check for updates...").
This will completely restart the program and update the program.
- I then clicked on the Extensions button (icon with blocks) in that left bar.
- Under "Installed" I found the Live Preview extension and saw "Reload required" for the extension. I clicked on that little alert and it refreshed it.
What DIDN'T work for me:
- Simply closing and reopening the VScode program.
- Switching to a pre-release version of Live Preview.
Hello @Paula Henderson,
Thank you for taking time to post this issue in Microsoft Q&A forum.
As Visual Studio(VS IDE) and Visual Studio Code(VS Code) are two different products, their extensions are usually different. May I firstly confirm, if you are using this extension: Live Preview? If so, it’s an extension for VS Code, not for VS IDE.
If you are using VS Code, the preview option should be there when you right-click one of the web pages. For example, I tested with a single .html file, see following screenshot:
If you are using VS IDE, then maybe you mean the integrated Web Live Preview feature? If so, you may need to use it in ASP .NET Web applications. You can right-click one of the web pages, select "View in Browser" or "Browse With…"(choose the Internal Web Browser or other web browsers, click Browse button) to live preview this web page.
Don't forget to enable web live preview feature and restart VS(Tools > Options > Web Forms Designer > General >Web Forms designer (requires restart) > Web Live Preview).
For example, tested with an ASP .NET Web application(.NET Framework, Web Forms):
Above is for VS 2022, if you are using VS 2019, you should follow the guidance here to enable it:
Web Live Preview (Preview)

Hello, Live Preview was working really fine for a few days, but in the last few days, it has stopped working.
Here's an example of the images I pasted, early it used to show me the image I pasted, but now it does unless I get to a reading mode (Ctrl+E). Can somebody help me with this,
I tired restarting, and updating my themes but nothing is working for me as of now.
Thank you.
If live preview fails only when you hover over a new Theme, and works for other things, such as selecting a new Quick Style set, then the reason is likely that your document doesn't contain anything which is immediately impacted by a Theme switch. For example, the text font will only change if it has been set to "+Body" or "+Headings"; if the style is explicitly set to (say) "Arial," that choice won't be affected by the switching Themes—nor will there be anything to preview.
Hello, C. Huber
Welcome to the Microsoft community!
I have realized that Live Preview doesn't work on my PC
Before that, I would like to ask you for some information to better address your question.
I would like to confirm that what's the version of your Office and which Windows system you are current using?
Have you confirmed that the function is already turned on?
You can find this option in [File] > [Settings] > [General], User Interface Settings.
You can then try typing a few words and changing the font to make sure it takes effect.
If Word doesn't work, you can open Excel and try it.
If that doesn't work, you can try the following steps.
- Cancel add-ons
Click on the document in the upper left corner of the file - Options - Add-ons - COM Add-ons Change Place to Manage, then select "Move", uncheck all add-ins, click OK, restart the Word document and see the effect.
- Registry Reset Office
Press Windows + R and type regedit in the Open Run box and press Enter.
Locate the following key and rename the Office folder (right-click it and select Rename (for example, Office will be renamed Officeold)):
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office
Then open the Word document again to try the effect.

If resetting Office doesn't work, you can try changing your graphics card driver settings or creating a new local account to troubleshoot if it's a system or driver issue.

Usually there are three kinds of drivers: Intel, AMD and Nvidia.
If there are two drivers, you can right-click to disable the first driver (CPU Core).
Then you try opening Word again.
New local account: New local account can troubleshoot the problems caused by the system account modifying some personalized settings, the method by switching a system login account to achieve the purpose of restoring the initial settings, you can use this to reduce the interference of some settings on the software. At the same time, you don't have to worry about missing files, all the files installed on your computer are there. The documents that have disappeared from the desktop will be saved in your original account and you will be able to see them when you switch back again.
