My brother has a living space sofa and enjoys it so far. For $1000 you really can’t get much of a better deal. It’s a good starter sofa, later in life you can buy the higher end sofas that are custom made or built with higher quality materials like alder wood and high resilience foam cushion, performance fabric etc Answer from Medical_Ingenuity_96 on reddit.com

June 24, 2024 - is there a reason to condense everything on the rug? pull the couch back so the front 2 legs are on the rug and you have more space before coffee table. and what’s the walkway like between couch & balcony? truly all that matters is how it works for the way you live in the space 🤷🏾‍♀️

We have a $1,400 budget for a new couch. I love both couches, the Wayfair one has a lot of good reviews but I’ve heard great things about the longevity of pieces from Living Spaces.

PLEASE do not suggest Facebook market place/second hand. I have been on there constantly and nothing even close to my taste has shown up. I will keep looking until I order, but I’d like to find something new under $1,400 if nothing second hand catches my eye.

With all the folks living in apartments and condos, I figure somebody in Durham had mastered the cheap furniture game. 🤣

I know $1200 isn't a lot of money for a couch. I get that the couch will be on the cheaper side of materials. However, this will be me and my husband's first "new" piece of furniture after our current couch broke (my nephew liked to body slam the couch every minute).

I've seen lots of options but I'm nervous about the "real" quality of what we'd be getting. As long as I know what to expect, it's fine, but I don't want to be advertised a flawless product and get something that tears on day 2. Also, Tiktok is giving me lots and lots of couch ads right now and I'm barely holding on. 🤣😅

I've looked on Amazon (want to avoid at all costs), Wayfair, and Costco. I'm just not confident and want to know if any pieces they sell are actually worth it. If I must, I'll resign myself to restore (habitat restore is great and where we got our previous couch set, but we just want something that's ours). Thank you for your help!

Moving into a new, larger apartment next week. My current studio is too small for a couch but my new place is a one bedroom. I don’t want to spend more than $1k (USD) on it. Where are the best places to buy one? I’ve checked FB Marketplace but am not able to pick up a couch. Almost every listing I see that I like says they can’t deliver so I’m kind of stuck on where to order one online. Thank you!

Edit: Thank you everyone for giving me suggestions! I didn't even think about getting movers to just pick up a couch for me. I found a very gently used West Elm couch on FB marketplace for $300. Hopefully it's good! If not, I might wait til next weekend and snag some labor day sales on the sites y'all were recommending!

October 4, 2025 -

I am trying to get a new sofa. a starter sofa. I am in my late twenties. I don't want to spend more than like 2k if possible. I need it to be easy to clean or washable, modular, and cream. I am between the:

- Cozey Gaia XL

- Living Spaces Zone Cream

Does anyone have experience with either? I don't know which to go for. I was able to sit on the living spaces one because they have showrooms in the US, and I liked it, but I am worried about the height in the back not being tall enough and it looking sloppy in general, maybe? but perhaps that is because it is a showroom piece? The Cozey Gaia looks like a nice option BUT there is no showroom for me to test it out, which freaks me out. Looking for recommendations! Thank you in advance!

In short, we’re looking for a “cloud” style sectional with washable covers. I see so many brands advertised on Instagram that it makes my head spin, and all of them have minimal/mixed reviews at best.

I know the “cloud” style is relatively new, but I don’t want to shell out for something that’s going to lose its fluff, tear easily, or have slats you can feel between the cushions when you sit down after a year of owning it.

My husband has a couple asks, but his main one is that it has back support, not a short back like some slouchier styles have.

I would love to hear y’all’s opinions, and I’ll hear out deviating from my hope of having a cloud couch if none of these brands are trustworthy/well-made, but I really don’t want to 😅

Thanks in advance!!

DO NOT BUY: Modular Performance 3-Seater + Bench Ottoman in Toffee | Relaxed Blend It took me and one person about 3 hours to assemble with some breaks, we were not in a rush. Boxes were extremely heavy and the instructions are not custom to the piece you are putting together, they are universal, so let’s say you are putting together an armless piece the instructions are all the same and the visual shows a couch piece with arms on it or 3 vertical poles even though you only have 2 vertical poles. If you are a visual learner like me it can be confusing, they should make instructions made for the exact piece you are building. 1 of the screws arrived without any rivets, it was completely smooth. I was super excited to get this couch since I moved in 7/20 and was couch-less for some time. How did I find this? Ads on Facebook and Instagram. I fell in love with the colors and read a bunch of the reviews. This is the first couch I have ever purchased and I have learned that I will never buy a couch that is delivered in a box and off the internet that I have never sat on first. 1 star is for Amanda and Alice who assisted me when with the ETA of this couch and after I decided I didn’t want to keep it. The same 1 star is for the 30 day return policy with all money back and 0 restocking fee. Genuinely wondering how this couch has such raving reviews. The only thing I like about this couch now that it’s in my den is the color and that it’s modular, nothing else. I went with the relaxed blend because it says it provides a sink in comfort and this couch is incredibly stiff and firm. There’s absolutely no sinking in and it feels like I am just sitting on top of the couch and the cushions barely move with my body, I would compare it to a hotel lobby couch that you shouldn’t sit on for very long. I could compare the back and arm cushions to blow up mattress pillows or pool floats, they barely move and dip when you push on them. Additionally, I cannot get over how I can feel the edge frame while laying and sitting on the couch in various positions. The only way you don’t feel it is if you are sitting perfectly on the center of one of the pieces. 5 average size adults can fit on this couch and those who are sitting on the cracks of the cushions will feel the frame on their butt and tail bone. My friends came over and we all tested it! I have stuck my arms in the cushions trying to move it all around and make it more fluffy based off a styling video I was sent from Amanda. There’s no cushion/padding around the frame whatsoever and the frame is comparable to a metal camp chair or sleeping cot. They offer the “seating comfort layer” that adds a layer between the frame and cushion and honestly this didn’t feel fair to have to purchase, the couch should already have something on it to prevent you from feeling the hardness of the frame. The fact this is even an option to buy is odd to me, it’s like Anabei knew it wasn’t comfortable and had to sell an add on piece. Even if I added these on, the back pillows are still hard. Also by the time these arrived I would miss my 30 day return window for the couch incase I was still unhappy. The ottomans also have no rubber, ties or velcro to prevent the cushion from moving on-top of the base. Also, if you like deep couches this isn’t for you, 2 adults cannot lay down on here side by side snuggling up with just the 3 seats. I’m 5’4” and my feet touch the ground while sitting on it regularly. There’s no hooks to keep the modular pieces together, just velcro straps that prevent them from separating side to side but not from sliding front and back, my couch isn’t against a wall so my primary seat keeps sliding back. For $3200 I didn’t expect the couch to be filled with what looks like chopped up french fries and diced onion foam. I am wondering what I paid for? Is $3200 for the color and material? Honest question, why did it take 5 weeks to come? All I can say is, don’t buy this couch unless you have sat on it yourself and if you do put 1 piece together first to determine how comfy it is for you before putting it all together. If firm and stiff is your vibe, you will love it or if it’s for a room that’s just for looks and not everyday use but....if you want to dip/sink in, this is not the couch. I put it on Facebook market place to sell because the idea of vacuum sealing the cushions back seemed like a huge inconvenience but Amanda sent me a video and the foam is recyclable and can be thrown out and this was a huge huge huge relief. Still not looking forward to breaking it down but I cannot wait until it’s gone and I no longer have to sit on it and feel the frame on my bones. The zone modular sectional from living spaces is a million times more comfortable and your body truly sinks in and it’s half the price. Don’t let instagram get you, sit on it first!!!

January 5, 2023 - Canceled the order, then found the same couch at Nebraska Furniture Mart with next day shipping and paid the extra $55 to have it here this week. ... People trust yelp? Between the people on there that are trying to be discovered as “humorists” and the other people who will 1 star you because you looked at them funny, I don’t find the reviews to be credible at all. That said, I’ve bought a few things over the years at Living Spaces in San Leandro and never had an issue.

I had IKEA's Friheten for 4 years and was happy with it. For $950, it was sufficient. I loved the pull-out model and almost always kept it popped out. I love lounging on it. The only thing I was not happy about was that it felt too firm. I got a foldable mattress for guests but I want to use the sofa as is without feeling uncomfortable.

Because of too many spills, and because I wanted to replace the couch anyway, I got rid of the dark grey Friheten. I am now looking for a similar pop-out sleeper sectional sofa with a chaise (hopefully with storage). My budget is under $2000.

The cushions should be firm, but not as firm as Friheten. I want something in a light color like beige or light grey. If it has to be dark, dark blue is ok.

I checked out the Dante model in Living Spaces,

These are some options I am looking at:

  1. West Elm - Harris model is the model I want but it's way too pricey $3200 - $3800. Also read negative reviews (https://www.reddit.com/r/BuyItForLife/comments/isx0h0/comment/is98c2f/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3, ) about West Elm on reddit (mostly about how the quality does not match the price)

  2. Article - NORDBY sectional - since its online-only, I do not know how firm/ plush the cushions are. Also, I saw some bad reviews about Article on reddit.

  3. Living Spaces - Dante - I loved the cushions but it has too much padding (the head rest is not needed for me) so it looks too big in the living room.

  4. IKEA - Holumsund/ Friheten - if there is really no choice, I will check out the Holumsund in store or settle with a beige Friheten :(

Does anyone have experience trying out any of these pop-up models? Do you have any other suggestions?
