All of Lockheed's work is contract based -so layoffs can be common and frequent. But they try to place employees in other jobs, if they are willing to travel or take a lesser positions. After being laid off once, I was re-hired.

r/Lockheed on Reddit: LM’s MO - layoffs or shift people
November 28, 2024 -
Hello, just trying to get a sense of how common are layoffs. Is it something that employees are always worried or thinking about? Does LM do layoffs by default rather than shift people around when contracts are terminated? I understand what makes sense for bad performers but just wondering about the regular employees that do their job well.
I have an upcoming interview, so trying to understand more what the dynamics are and how the company behaves.

Depends a lot on the size of the program tbh, it’s easier to place smaller amounts of people. Probably business area too. I’m a part of a “critical need area” (whatever the term they’re using now) and I’ve had a positive experience in terms of your question. From my network I know my experience is not universal however I’d say more often than not they really try to place people if they have relevant skills. It’s one of the most redeeming aspects of working at LM.

During the loss of the FLRAA contract, there was job loss experienced and tons of reorganization of folks. They tried to keep as many people as possible. It was a huge defeat for that area of the company and it was fairly recent. They usually try to retain as much as possible. However, I know in general the layoffs inadvertently don’t usually impact critical folks to the business. I would be more cautious if you’re a mechanic/technician versus salaried worker.
