log base 2 of 3 without calculator (Check)
Your solutions are not wrong. The problem occurs when you can't approximate the roots or get an irrational root you're unfamiliar with, say 73/5 and have to compare it to another difficult root, say 717/29 73/5 = 3.21 (approximately) 717/29 = 3.19 (approximately) Your method is a bit more brute force which for small numbers like this works but will necessitate a calculator earlier than the one shown in the video which was more elegant and doesn't necessitate a calculator. log₂(3) = ? What is the answer to log base 2 of 3?
The logarithm log2(3) asks: "To what power must 2 be raised to get 3?" Since 2 is not a power of 3, the answer will be an irrational number. We can use the change of base formula to compute this logarithm using common (base 10) or natural (base e) logarithms. More on askfilo.com

How to key in log2 on casio calculators?
Per the user manuals, neither the fx-96SG PLUS for the fx-97SG X offer arbitrary-base logarithms. They only offer logarithm base 10 (log X) and logarithm base e (ln X). To compute an arbitrary logarithm base, you need to use the identity log_a(b) = log_c(b)/log_c(a) Where you can choose whichever base c happens to be available on your instrument. (On these calculators, the bases which are available are 10 and e.) For example, log2(4) = ln(4)/ln(2) = 2.0 More on reddit.com

Why Log of -8 with base -2 is not 3?
Is a really good question, but one with an answer that won't make total sense until you've leaned quite a bit more math. It is possible to make sense of logs with negative bases, but they become "multiply valued". The calculator manufacturer would need to choose one of the multiple values to display and has chosen to give NaN rather than an incomplete answer. That's not wrong; multiple numbers are not a number. Complex numbers are necessary because, e.g., there's no real number r such that r-2 = -1. So you need a theory of complex-valued functions before you can really do it right. More on reddit.com

How do you calculate log base 2?
To calculate log₂(x): (1) If x is a power of 2, count how many times you multiply 2 to get x. (2) For other numbers, use the change of base formula: log₂(x) = ln(x) / ln(2) or log₂(x) = log₁₀(x) / log₁₀(2). For example, log₂(64) = 6 because 2⁶ = 64, and log₂(10) ≈ 3.32193 using the formula.

What is log base 2?
Log base 2, also known as the binary logarithm (written as log₂(x) or lb(x)), is the power to which 2 must be raised to obtain a given number. For example, log₂(8) = 3 because 2³ = 8. It is extensively used in computer science, information theory, and binary computations.

How do I calculate the logarithm in base 2?

To calculate the logarithm in base 2, you probably need a calculator. However, if you know the result of the natural logarithm or the base 10 logarithm of the same argument, you can follow these easy steps to find the result. For a number x:

  1. Find the result of either log10(x) or ln(x).

  2. Divide the result of the previous step by the corresponding value between:

    • log10(2) = 0.30103; or

    • ln(2) = 0.693147.

  3. The result of the division is log2(x).

March 24, 2020 -

I got this question from this video and there were 4 options:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6C5hGpWW5A

can anyone tell me if my method was accurate, (the guy in the video used a more simpler method but here's mine):

we know 2>x>1 (2^2 = 4 >3 > 2^1 =2) then I took three values as x from the question:

(i) 2^ 3/2 = 2 *sq rt (2)

(ii) 2 ^ 4/3 = 2* cub rt (2)

(iii) 2 ^ 5/3 = 2* cub rt (4)

As (ii) n (iii) are the closest values to 3, log base 2 of 3 must lie between 1 1/2 and 1 2/3. How accurate do you think this method would be? I will really really enjoy some feedback it has really been bugging me.
