Login.gov?
It’s just a login credential/portal used by a handful of government interfaces. Nothing much you can do with it directly. But, you’ll want to at least make a secure password and some 2FA. Then use it to log into SSA eVerify and lock your SSN there. It will prevent anyone else using it for employment or to file tax returns and stuff like that. More on reddit.com

Is Login.gov Selling Americans Data?
I think third parties with this much crucial data should be treated with extreme suspicion. I also think there's lots of room for contractors or subcontractors to get breached. Attack surface everywhere. More on reddit.com

How do I sign in if I lost my phone or personal key? | Login.gov
If you selected phone call or text message as your authentication method, your phone must be present to get the security code to sign in. We encourage you to add multiple authentication methods — this way, you’ll be able to access your account even if your device is stolen or your online accounts are hacked.

USAJOBS Help Center - Question: What is login.gov and why do I have to create an account?
Select your first method of authentication—having another way to sign in keeps your account more secure than using only a password. You can choose between text messages, phone calls, an authentication application, a security key, or backup codes. Government employees can also use their PIV card or CAC. Select a backup method of authentication—you need to select a backup method, in case you don't have access to your first choice (for example you don't have access to your phone). Once you've finished setting up your login.gov account, you'll go back to USAJOBS to finish the process.
