I very nearly bought the version 1 combo touch for my 2021 M1 iPad Pro 13 inch, until I discovered I could get a refurbished Apple Magic Keyboard case for $125 on Amazon. That was an unusually good deal though and I don’t know if that is still available. Answer from phasepistol on reddit.com

Logitech Combo touch vs Magic Keyboard. Which should I buy?
The primary difference between the two isn’t the keyboard or ports - it’s physics. The challenge in attaching a keyboard to a tablet is that the tablet has it’s mass behind the screen - unlike a laptop that has the guts under the keyboard which can easily support and stabilize a light screen panel. How do you keep the top-heavy tablet from tumbling over? The obvious solution is to add mass under the portable keyboard to offset the tablet. But then you end up with a brick, which defeats the primary purpose of mobility. The Logitech combo uses the Microsoft Surface design. It puts the tablet in a case with a kickstand. This distributes the weight down between the stand and the bottom of the tablet. No extra weight is needed under the keyboard. It is a lightweight solution. And it works well … if you are using it on a desk or table with plenty of space to stretch out the keyboard/tablet/kickstand combination. It doesn’t work well in cramped spaces (an airline tray table, for example) or on a lap. The genius of the Magic Keyboard is the way it origami’s the tablet above the keyboard - cantilevering enough of the weight to the front to keep it from falling backwards. This allows it to go where the Surface or Logitech Combo cannot - into small spaces or just balanced on your lap. So, the primary consideration should be where you intend to use this. If the intended location is flat and roomy enough, then either can work. If not, then the only functional solution is the Magic Keyboard, if you can afford it. More on reddit.com

Modified old Logitech Type+ keyboard case for my 10.5 Pro
Nice hack! Great that the keyboard can hold the smart cover all together as if one piece just by the magnet. Nothing feels better than a diy gone right :p More on reddit.com

New Logitech Folio Case..
Might be interested, but $160 for a kickstand with a massive footprint, and a reworked Keys to Go 2 is a bit much. More on reddit.com

Does anyone here use the 'Logitech Combo Touch Keyboard Case with Trackpad for iPad'? What are your thoughts on it?

I'm thinking about upgrading from my iPad Air 2nd Gen to an iPad Air M2, but the idea of dropping 399 beaver tails (aka Canadian dollars) on a keyboard makes me do a double-take.

The Logitech Combo Touch looks pretty decent and goes for about half the price of the Magic Keyboard.

So, I’m curious—what do you all think about the Logitech keyboard?

r/iPadPro on Reddit: Logitech Combo touch vs Magic Keyboard. Which should I buy?
October 29, 2022 -

So, I just got an M2 iPad pro (my first ipad) and want to buy a keyboard case for it.

What is everyone's thoughts on the Logitech combo touch vs apples own magic keyboard?

My GF has the combo touch for her ipad air, so I have a bit of hands-on experience with it, but I have not used the magic keyboard in person.

I am really trying to weigh the pros and cons of each. But struggling to make a decision.

Things I like about the magic keyboard:

  • extra USB port for charging

  • smaller footprint when standing (more usable on a plane/in the lap)

  • I've been told the keyboard and trackpad are better

Things I like about the combo touch:

  • Function row/media keys

  • Detachable keyboard

  • case provides protection to the ipad.

  • can fold much further to use with apple pencil (this is not dealbreaker for me as I don't plan on getting an apple pencil right away, and probably won't be using it all that much).

Does anyone have any experience with both? Which do you prefer? Is the function row/media keys that useful on iPadOS?

The main use case i will be using the iPad for is prototyping in swift playgrounds/details pro, occasionally playing no mans sky when its available, and watching videos in bed.

A few annoyances I had with my GFs combo touch:

  • a few times on my GFs ipad air, the trackpad stopped scrolling/working properly. I've had to kill an app and start it up again to fix it. I have no idea if this is just an iPadOS bug or an issue with the trackpad itself.

  • the volume buttons are hard to find on the combo touch because they are completely covered by the case and replaced with a + and -

I just got the Logitech combo and love it. I like how when you detach the keyboard you still have a case protecting the iPad. I also really like the function key row, no idea why the Magic Keyboard doesn’t have it. I think the slightly better keyboard of the Magic Keyboard isn’t worth losing the function row and better protection of the Logitech. The built in stand in the Logitech case is also really good.
