'optical' refers to the sensor under the mouse. Keyboards aren't optical. Huh. Today I learned something new. Oh well. I didn't know there were optical switches.

I won’t lie, unless they can make one that actually feels and sounds like a mechanical switch I’d rather them keep using mechanical switches.
I bought a viper mini yesterday and though they do feel a lot better than my original viper ultimate it still doesn’t feel or sound good compared to mechanical switches and I can’t feel the difference in latency between the two.

Reaaaally hope so, especially their mice. Had severe double clicking with my G102 and replaced my G603 TWICE for the same reason (plus the jumpy scrolling that mouse was also known for). But the recent release of their Pro X Superlight made me a tad less hopeful because they still stuck with mechanical switches for a 150 dollar, E Sports grade gaming mouse. Got the Viper Mini for now specifically for the optical switches and its promise of no more double-clicking. Plus the lightweight nature and affordability of it is appreciated. More on reddit.com

October 9, 2019 - The thing with the reduced latency claims is that it really really depends. I've had optical switch keyboards that added 80 - 120ms to the input latency. My current keyboard, the Razer blackwidow v3 mini, adds less than 5ms. This is a regular mechanical keyboard.
