Iconic, well worth it, catch the cable cars to the top and walk down. It would be better in the spring when the flowers were out but worth it any time of year

Is Lombard Street really the crookedest street in the world?
Not technically. The article notes that Vermont Street in San Francisco has more turns over a shorter distance, but Lombard Street remains the most famous thanks to its landscaping, views, and central location.

Close Lombard Street to cars
Never understood why we don’t just block off certain streets for cars like European cities have been doing. It would be great for nearby businesses and residents. You can dine/drink out in the open without those obnoxiously loud vehicles disrupting all conversations. Potential streets: Fillmore st, Valencia st, Lombard st, Haight St, etc. More on reddit.com

The "Other Lombard Street"
https://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/35991 That's Vermont Street, which snakes its way down Potrero Hill between 20th and 22nd Streets. Seven switchbacks, far more disorienting (and far more steep) than Lombard's, wedged into a claustrophobic tree-canopied alley. And, unlike Lombard, there's never a queue to drive down -- unless it's during the annual Bring Your Own Big Wheel race every April. More on reddit.com

1 day ago - The crooked section of San Francisco’s Lombard Street, a residential neighborhood, attracts about two million visitors each year, resulting in gridlock and noise[9]. The San Francisco County Transportation Authority’s studies concluded that a paid reservation and pricing system could alleviate congestion by managing auto volumes and pedestrian flows[10]. Without such measures, the street experiences traffic congestion and pollution for up to ten hours a day[10]. The proposed reservation system has not yet been implemented, but continued growth could force city officials to adopt it by 2026.

Lombard Street is San Francisco’s Crookedest Street.
Lombard Street in San Francisco is one of America’s crookedest streets and found on many tours. The steep, hilly street was created with sharp curves to switchback down the one-way hill past beautiful Victorian mansions. If not for the byzantine curves, easing out this treacherous slope, people could be killed rolling down.

Lombard Street: Visiting San Francisco’s Crookedest Street
June 7, 2023 - You may have seen Lombard Street billed as “The Crookedest Street in San Francisco,” but did you ever wonder why it’s designed that way? The road was built in the 1920s, when cars — which had just become popular, keep in mind — couldn’t make it up and down the steep hills.
