Lombard Street in San Francisco is one of America’s crookedest streets and found on many tours. The steep, hilly street was created with sharp curves to switchback down the one-way hill past beautiful Victorian mansions. If not for the byzantine curves, easing out this treacherous slope, people could be killed rolling down.

I am researching the history of Lombard Street, from its earliest days as an Irish Catholic quarter, to its industrial past when factories lined both sides of the street, fast forward to the contemporary architecture visible today.

Additionally, to manage the flow of vehicles, this design proposes removing a minimum of eight on-street parking spaces on Lombard near the intersection of Lombard and Hyde to create a right-turn-only lane for vehicles without reservations to be directed away from the street.
