Every “desirable neighborhood” in LA is a couple blocks of stores. You just described Los Feliz, Atwater, Virgil Village, Sawtelle, Larchmont, Fairfax Village, Brentwood, and I guess 3 different parts of Silver Lake. As destinations, they’re a bunch of coffee shops and wine bars, yeah. But the appeal of living there is walkability to nice day-to-day stuff, with close proximity to busier areas. I’ve lived in no-man’s-land parts of LA where the only shit in walking distance were gas stations and a Pollo Loco, and it was super isolating and unpleasant. (Not that I think this describes the Valley. Parts of it are awesome, I’m sure. But people live in these expensive-ass hipster enclaves for a reason.) More on reddit.com

Not sure what qualifies as good in your mind. And are you looking for clothes? Furniture? You just want inexpensive? Or you want like high end vintage? There is a huge Goodwill on Hollywood blvd in Los Feliz, and an Out of the Closet also on Hollywood Blvd. For clothes, there is a Crossroads at the intersection of Hillhurst/Virgil/Hollywood/Sunset. There is another Crossroads on Hyperion. There are several vintage clothing stores such as L.A.G. Vintage on Virgil, Pineapple Mama on Hollywood in Thai Town, and Squaresville and Replay are on Vermont in Los Feliz, and Cherry Pick Vintage on Franklin just west of Vermont. Most of those are kind of overpriced, but they do have some nice stuff. Goodwill has the best prices, followed by Out of the Closet. For a ridiculously huge thrift store with like, furniture, appliances, electronics, clothes, books, and even sometimes cars and boats, go to St. Vincent De Paul in Lincoln Heights.
