I'll be completely honest, I have no experience on taking care of plants and while I was hanging out at our backyard it seems so empty and it's lacking something. I've also been depressed lately so maybe start learning about plants will be therapeutic.
I live in Central FL. I just have no idea how to start. Any kind of advises or suggestions are greatly appreciated, thank you so much!

Pentas, vinca, hibiscus, gardenia, lantana, blanket flowers, salvias, beach sunflower all do well in containers! There’s probably a lot more, those are just the ones I’ve had success with. As you do your research, keep in mind the amount of sun and water needed for different plants varies. So choose the ones that will be best for your growing conditions. Gardening is a great pick me up I hope you feel better soon ❤️

If your deck gets full sun I recommend thryallis if you want big fluffy shrubs, or native lantana if you need them shorter. So many options that flower year round and if you go native the butterflies will love you for it! I’m pretty sure central FL has a decent amount of native plant nurseries, they’ll have a bigger selection and the prices are better than home depot or lowe’s
