Some things like out of square, warped make installing them and having the grout joints look good an absolute nightmare and all the money saved on the product becomes a labor expense. Take a few tiles place them on a granite counter top that's level but all the joints together at lease 2-3 long and 4 pieces wide and you'll see quick of it's square, if you start playing with lining it up then it's going to be 100x worse on the install if you don't plant for it, spacers need to be wedge style and you need a bunch of snapped lines to follow because you cannot trust the tiles. Hey every thing could be great and they could be near perfect, but I bet they are not. Doesn't mean they won't last and they won't look good at the end of the day. I've installed some tiles like that and everyone loved how it looked. But it took way longer than it should have and I recognized the issues before it was an issue. I have had seriously terrible tile from big box stores but also good stuff too. I had one tile that was so thin it was hard to even cut without shattering. It’s hit or miss, you just have to look at it and hold it to know really. You should be fine with your choice. Just take a few out of the box and see if they are the same size. Bought Lowe’s wood look porcelain tile a few years ago. Tiled my entire 1500 sq. house. Corners chip easily.. wish I shopped elsewhere or put vinyl plank instead. Just my experience.

Avoid Lowe's tile it's terrible. Out of size and not flat. You will have lippage on the install no matter what. When it comes to tile don't cheap out. Buy good material.

Well as you can imagine, home depot and Lowes have much better pricing on tile than my local trade stores (they work with tradesmen and tradesmen recommend them to clients). With Labor Day sales coming up, Im very tempted. Should I be worried or aware of anything buying tile from big box?

Supporting local stores vs the chains is a good thing, but I don't think it's realistic to expect people to pay 2X as much almost for the same tile and I've seen that locally. The big stores they have a decent selection and lower prices mostly. Me, I can't afford to always be that magnanimous when I shop. It's your budget. Only you know what you can afford and what is practical. Altruism is great, if you can afford it, but you can't let it bankrupt you...

If you have experience with tile, it is ok. In my experience with home depot and lowes tile I find the big rectangle tiles usually used for floors at 1.99 a square foot are usually bowed a little like a rainbow so when you stagger the tile there is a lip where the end of the tile is lined up with the middle of the tile on an adjacent row. Also read reviews on the tile you want, any flaw found in them are usually nationally and other people will already be bitching about it. I had some 18" square tiles that even made from the same lot have variances of up to .250" in size. I spent a lot of time in store sifting through those tiles to find equal sized tiles. My back splash is also from hd and that was good to work with. It was a subway setup on a square foot sheet. That being said, I've only used hd and lowes tiles, I always get porcelain, and I always do research and personally inspect them before I lay/buy them.
