While in Lowes I stumbled on a DIY-ish wood table top with live edge. It looked interesting, but after Googling, found nothing on it. Though this could be due to the company name being "Live Edge" which is a very general term, but I digress.
I was curious if anyone has screwed around with this or has seen one of these constructed as well as the community's general thoughts. The idea looks interesting, especially since wood tables with a live wood perimeter are currently quite popular

They probably sort the flawed wood from the lumber dept., double the price, and move it to the furniture parts dept. 😏

My son and I made a picture shelf out of one of these. It’s soft wood, would not recommend for a table that is going to see lots of use. I’d also question if joining two pieces with the prefab fasteners would yield you a wide enough table to be useful. Maybe for a coffee table but that’s probably it. That being said, it worked great for what I used it for. Yeah it was a little more expensive for what it is, but it was convenient, easy for the kid to work with, and the end result came out looking pretty decent.

Hello, I am looking to create a desk for my wife with these countertops. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions for the drawers/legs? I originally wanted to get IKEA Alex Drawers with an IKEA countertop, but they are all out of stock. And alternatives that can be trusted like the Alex Drawers?

eh your standard butcher block counter top, the one that is the size of a small kitchen Island is perfectly compatible with most desk frames just measure out what you need basically, then oil and wak it and you're good.

I'm looking to get an unfinished butcher block top, and finish it myself. Haven't decided on the species yet, but leaning towards Acacia.
Just want to know what your experience is as far as the tops quality(tear outs, chips, dents, levelness, etc) from Lowes or HD.

I have an acacia top from Lowe's. Happy with it. It's not perfect but as a desk I am quite happy with it. Would recommend sanding it to smooth it out a bit more, specially the edges as they can be quite sharp against your wrist. I didnt do so and wish I did, but was a bit of a challenge living in an apartment.overall I'm very happy with it and would do it again for the price.just make sure the block you get is not damaged from delivery.. Mine has a small crack I noticed while I was finishing the wood but decided it wasn't a huge deal.

Bought the cheapest rubber wood / Hevea 6ft unfinished top for like $149, pretty happy with it. Make sure you pick one up in person so you can look for cracks, dents etc. Sand with 120, then 220. Use a pre-stain wood conditioner to pop the end grains, then sand again with 220 (don't skip this). Stain (I used minwax provincial, 2 coats 24hrs between coats). Lightly sand again with 320 grit or some synthetic sanding pads ( recommended ). Then do 5-6 coats of wipe on polyurethane, sanding lightly with 320 / extra fine synthetic sanding pads between coats, following with a tack cloth. Then let it cure for a week, and mount onto your frame. Or skip all this hard work and buy a pre-finished one and spend a little more. I needed to cut mine down to a custom length, so I went the finish it myself route.
