We had our 2 story farmhouse style home resided in October last year. The house siding is PlyGems Board and Batten siding. This siding is installed vertically not horizontal like normal siding. The main issue is lower J-channel that the siding sits in does not come down below the joint between foundation and wood walls as the old siding did. So it exposed the beam that the wood walls sit upon. Also the j-channel is a different height/level from one side to next. The home is 30 ft high so the siding panels are 10 ft high then there is a separator board where the second story siding panels begin. Well those separator boards aren’t level from one side to the next side. One side is 1/2 low the next is 1/2 high etc. There is a corner piece so they aren’t directly butted up next to each other but enough you can tell they don’t match. When I brought these issues up to the contractor I was told a couple things……it’s an old house (125 years)and it settled, I can’t expect him to be perfect and I’m being too picky. Now we spent 17k for this install and feel we didn’t get the quality job i would expect from Lowes or at that price. Also this Lowes job been chasing a resolution with Corporate Lowes for last 5 months.

Our home is 1988, 1600 sq ft, very high walls on the left and right side. We have the original masonite siding, which has gotten to the point that squirrels are just chewing right threw it to get into our attic. Decided for curb appeal and our peace of mind to get estimates for Vinyl Siding.

After some cursory googling, averages from 10 to 15k kept popping up, but when the guy from Lowe's finished his review, he quoted us at 36k! I have 2 more contractors coming in the next few weeks, but I just need to know if that is what I should be expecting for how materials are this summer?
