The truth about vinyl plank
I appreciate your post because we were debating using it in our sunroom. The primary reason was that it was thin and would help us avoid a height differential from the house, which is getting 5/8 engineered hardwood. Secondary rationale was that the room would get more animal, kids, sand traffic and might hold up better? Maybe it’s better to just accept the height transition. We’ll probably remove/renovate the sunroom in 10 years, so longevity isn’t a huge concern More on reddit.com
Is there vinyl sheet flooring today that is comparable to what was around 16 years ago and/or anything that won't tear within a year?
About a year ago we had this installed in our kitchen and two bathrooms: https://tarketthome.com/Products/Hard-Flooring/Luxury-Sheet/Easy-Living It's been excellent - really soft and padded but still very durable and I love the finish, which is just slightly textured (not rough, but matte so that it's never slippery). It replaced a 36-year-old linoleum sheet floor, and is so much nicer and seems like it will last a really long time. We didn't use big box stores - we went to a local independent carpet & tile store. February 18, 2024 - Maybe there was a bad batch because almost everyone else gives glowing reviews. - There are multiple thicknesses of the top layer. Is it best to get 20 mil or thicker? The thinner stuff is cheaper, but I'm concerned it might not wear very well. (There is a local home builder who is notorious for installing vinyl plank flooring which is so cheap and thin it almost immediately starts peeling up.)

November 23, 2022 -
We are remodeling our whole home, and I am interested in vinyl sheet flooring for a few reasons for the bathrooms and kitchen.
Inexpensive
Better water protection than some other options like click-together boards
The old vinyl flooring from the 70s looks amazing, just slightly discolored (longevity seems good)
Easy to install
But I am worried about resale value. I also have found some really cool-looking pieces that have some character/personality, but maybe that's bad for resale too.
One of the options I like
another I like
Another maybe
Or maybe something more bland and regular
another basic option

September 30, 2022 - In the end, I’m so glad we went with this flooring, and I hope this Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring review was helpful. Not having to worry about scratches and spilled drinks makes it all worth it! It may not look and feel as realistic as laminate, but when it comes down to it, no one is going to be looking at your floor that closely.

February 17, 2024 - Years ago when I looked at it the sales guy said you can put it over old flooring. I looked at him and he said...but not over shag carpet...lol ... I did gray in a few rooms ~5-6 years ago. Was only after we started putting it down I realized it was 4 or 5 different "shades". Well, we pulled from several boxes to mix it, but still didn't mix that well. Didn't hate it, but wasn't in love with it either. ... I know it seems to hold up well. But I just don't like the look of luxury vinyl flooring as much as I like real tile (not the wood flavored tile, haha) or even some laminates.

September 5, 2025 - It’s also waterproof, so it’s a great alternative to tile in rooms such as baths and kitchens, where it provides a forgiving surface underfoot. This flooring type comes in two main varieties: traditional vinyl and luxury vinyl flooring (LVF). Both are made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), but LVF is thicker and more rigid, and it typically has more protective top layers.

February 6, 2025 - The pattern of the vinyl has low variation, so there’s not an additional pattern on the floor competing with my home decor. There are no places of dark or light, just a beautiful uniform rustic gray/brown color that works with my home perfectly. If you are looking for a similar look, but a wider plank, then I would suggest Nantucket Oak by COREtec. This is the #1 reason I chose luxury vinyl plank – they had the look I wanted in the price range I needed.
