Looking at the Apple Store, it looks like I can get a refurbished M2 Air with 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD for about the same price as an M1 Air with the same specs. Would a refurbished one from Apple be a safe bet? I’m hesitant to buy a refurbished laptop, but if it’s directly from Apple, I might feel a little better.
This would be my first Mac, so I’m open to all your feedback.
EDIT: Thanks for all your input. You’ve convinced me that the refurb is the way to go.
I messed it up. I wanted a MacBook to edit my videos on DaVinci (4K60fps, some Fusion — not much tho). Late at night, I ordered what I thought was a great deal on Apple refurbished: 13-inch MacBook Air with M2 chip, 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU, 16GB RAM, 256GB memory for $709.
I thought it was a great deal because I read Pro instead of Air. But the Apple refurbished Pro is $1199 — out of my budget right now... But I saw Best Buy has cheaper options, just a little concern about quality and care.
It arrived and it looks great, but it’s an Air… and now I’m not sure if it was actually a good deal or if it’ll handle all my media. I’m not a pro at editing but I'm getting a better computer because my last one couldn't handle Davinci. I have an external SSD, and it’s mostly social media stuff — YouTube, short videos, but some freelance work too.
So now I’m thinking about what to do:
EDIT**
Accept and stay with this Apple refurbished MacBook Air with M2 chip, 8-core CPU, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD for $709
Get a Best Buy refurbished MacBook Pro with M2 chip, 10-core CPU, 8GB RAM, 512GB memory for $750
What would you do?
Is anyone editing on Macbook Air? Or who got a Refurbished from Best Buy?
