Which is better, the M5 MacBook Pro or M4 Pro MacBook Pro
This is likely to confuse a few people. The Pro chip is always better than the non Pro chip. And similarly the Max varient is better than the Pro (it's essentially two Pro chips).
When we run benchmarking tests we expect to see a boost compared to the M4 MacBook Pro, but the M4 Pro and M4 Max chips will still bet them, just not by as much as the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips will when they launch.
Is there a M5 Pro MacBook Pro?
Unfortunately not yet. Apple has only launched the M5 MacBook Pro.
For now the following M4 Pro and M4 Max MacBook Pro models remain.
16-inch MacBook Pro
16-inch MacBook Pro
Should I buy an M5 MacBook Pro or wait for the M5 Pro (or M5 MacBook Air)
These three Macs are very different beasts and the answer depends on what you need. The MacBook Air is a lot cheaper than the MacBook Pro and you do get more for your money, but it also has a set of restrictions due to it's more compact size. When the M5 MacBook Air comes out we think it will probably prove popular. As for the MacBook Pro with the Pro chip, the price will be a lot higher than the M5 model, but if you need the extra power, RAM and GPU capabilities then it's likely to be worth waiting.
I'm a computer science student who does software/AI work in university. I currently use a 13" 2020 Intel MacBook Pro. It's getting a bit sluggish for doing the AI training and software work I do. I want to get a new MacBook Pro, so I'm considering get one after WWDC in June this year when they update it. However, I've seen the rumors saying 2026 will be a big year and they'll make the laptop thinner and get rid of the notch. That's very tempting, and I think I might be able to wait one more year for it.
