Mine did this literally two weeks ago. Purchased the MacBook new in 2019. Still had my box and everything. Recently updated the Mac. Prompted me to log in. Nothing worked. Kept saying invalid. I’ve had the same Apple ID since literally 2009. So it wasn’t a different one. Apple support couldn’t help. Luckily I pay for asurions home protection. I sent it in after Apple suggested I do so for a corrupted hard drive. They sent me a new MacBook because they couldn’t find a valid reason for it to not log in. The MacBook kept giving the code that my MacBook wasn’t connected to my Apple ID. Which Apple care and asurion both agreed. Good luck. More on reddit.com

Hi, my name is Michael today. I was at a governmental auction and I bought a MacBook pro 2018, this device was lost by someone and because the person didn’t reclaim his device it was sold at this governmental auction. I have a receipt from the governmental auction and data erasure report issued by Blanco.
What would you recommend is the best way to remove the Apple activation lock from this device.
Because all the data was wiped off it. I need to install a new operation system. I installed Ventura 13 when I removed the activation lock. I want to put this MacBook on Linux because I need it for my computer science studies, my main notebook was like 2 kg because I also use it for gaming and electricity consumption is too high to take it for educational purposes

Answer (1 of 7): Unfortunately it doesn’t work like that. Any Macbook from 2018 onwards has the T2 security chip…so even if you wipe the SSD and reinstall the OS…upon restarting the Macbook, once you go online (which you have to do)…you’ll be greeted with an activation lock status.
