r/macbookpro on Reddit: What's the minimum wattage for charging a 14 inch MacBook Pro (late 2023, M3 Pro)
June 6, 2024 -
Was wondering because often on Remote Work, and sometimes the amazing battery of the mac isn't enough and I would like to try charging it on the usb or magsafe port with a big powerbank, that I could carry with my backpack (which is kinda big).
So if you got also any advice on some Powerbank that could charge my mac, would be glad to hear it !

I think it depends on the loads you put the machine through. My M3 Max under load discharges when connected to 100W power, so I am pretty sure that in this situation there is no power bank to cover it. But for not under full load and a 14” M3 Pro try to get the biggest wattage you can. If you manage to find something around 50W you probably will be fine unless you do very heavy loads.

The maximum load of 14" M3 Pro is 65W, this is the minimum one to prevent the laptop drain its battery. Otherwise 30/45 should work in light load for charging.

Use the 140W charger that Apple provided. That 60W source from your LG monitor, if even compatible, would not keep up with any active use of the M3 MacBook Pro.

No, but it will impact the charging speed.

It's fine. I only keep a lightweight 30W charger in my bag, I've used it for days and it keeps my M2 16" fully charged. If you're doing intense work, it might use some battery too, but using the battery on it's own uses up battery even more. I did a post on it a few months back on how it worked and how I tested it out. https://www.reddit.com/r/macbookpro/comments/11aj8hq/macbook_pro_max_16_on_a_30w_charger_this_is_how/
