Hi there,
I’m on the lookout to buy a 13-inch MacBook Pro M2—yes, the last MacBook ever made featuring a Touch Bar.
My mom owns an M1 13-inch MBP (16GB/1TB), and I’ve used it from time to time. It’s a nice laptop. Even with a lot of programs open, the fans didn’t even kick in. It has long battery life despite being at 84% health, a premium feel, a nice display (I’m aware that the newer MacBook Pros feature ProMotion and Mini-LED), and I love the Touch Bar.
Since I’m looking to buy a MacBook myself, I’m considering the M2 13-inch MBP (24GB/2TB). I mostly do basic tasks—surfing with many tabs open (Safari), reading, watching videos, basic programming in C# with Rider, and occasionally editing videos in DaVinci Resolve. Nothing too crazy, mostly just drone footage or recordings from my phone, and my mom’s MBP never had any issues running these tasks.
My question: Is this M2 MacBook Pro still worth it in 2025?
I’m considering getting a MacBook Pro because of the fan, which the MacBook Air lacks. This makes it more future-proof for intensive programs which I maybe might end up using, such as rendering more videos / in higher quality, and because of the Touch Bar.
Or should I consider a 14-inch MacBook Pro with M2, M3, or M4 for more future-proofing? What would I be missing out on besides ProMotion and Mini-LED (which isn’t a big deal since I have an iPad Pro 12.9 for watching movies)?
Please let me know your opinions.
