Got this bad boy about a month and a half ago.
Primarily for content creation, photography and my master's degree.
I can easily say that this is the absolute best computing experience I have ever had and and it's not even close.
This is coming from someone who has built/had dozens of windows computers.
The entire Adobe Creative Cloud works flawlessly, the battery life is stellar and the micro-led display is phenomenal.
I never thought I would get a Macbook but here I am and I am glad I did.
Hi, I’m a graphic designer. I mostly use Photoshop and Illustrator, but I’m currently learning After Effects and planning to switch to doing professional work full-time.
$2,400 is pretty expensive, but I want my laptop to last at least 6–7 years.
Do you think it’s a wise idea to buy a MacBook? I’ve used HP and MSI in the past, and I really struggled with color accuracy that’s why I want to switch to a MacBook. Also, I love how portable they are.
I am back on the MBP line again! I've been on my MBP M5 (512GB storage/32GB ram) for about a week now and I am loving it so far! Previously I had the base 2017 MBP (128GB storage/8GB ram), then traded it in a few years ago for a MacBook Air M2 (256GB storage/ 16GB ram), then just recently traded that in to this new beast!
Navigating around MacOS feels as fast as my M2 Air, but opening apps definitely feels more snappy. My use case on the MacBook is for mainly web browsing, video watching, raw photo and 4k/6k video editing from my Lumix and DJI Osmo 360. My MBA M2 was able to handle these edits and exports admirably as well, but the exporting times so far on the M5 have been blazing fast! Plus with the maxed out ram, I see this machine serving me well for at least 3-5 years, though I do also have my Legion Pro 5i gaming laptop (i9-14900 HX/2TB storage/64GB ram/RTX 4070) as my "backup" in case editing and exporting gets starts to get sluggish on the M5 😅
I probably could've waited for the M5 Pro chips to come out some time early next year, but for my use case the extra $400-500 wouldn't be worth it. I would consider the M5 MacBook more as a MacBook Air+ and it fits my needs. Plus with the trade in and military discount, the total price came to just a little under the retail price of a base MBP M5. I hope everyone else who bought the MBP M5 are enjoying their machines as well!
I’m getting a MacBook with the M5 chip for dev work (Docker, VS Code, running projects, etc.).
I’m stuck between two configs:
24GB RAM + 512GB SSD (gonna buy an external ssd)
16GB RAM + 1TB SSD
I can use an external SSD if needed, so storage isn’t a huge problem. But I’m not sure if 16GB is enough for Docker and multiple tools running at once.
Which one would you pick? More RAM or more SSD?
Looking for real dev experiences.
im also a beginner (6 months) im a web dev that is mainly frontend and i need to future proof
i also work with blender and video editing (short 30s - 1:30 clips for reels)
