I’m due for a new MacBook Pro (current one is 15” bought in 2015, mid-2014 version- have loved it for a decade). I’m a freelance graphic designer.

Costco's sale on the M4 Pro 16” MacBook Pro at $250 off ends tomorrow. Final price would be $2,199 (plus I would add AppleCare, I guess). Should I buy now or will there be further discounts after the M5 16” comes out next year? Any special perks or drawbacks buying an Apple laptop from Costco? (Best Buy has the same price right now, and Apple is offering a $250 Apple gift card which would not be as useful.)

My old MacBook still works okay but will want to buy something in 2026 at latest, so I just didn’t want to miss the sale and regret it later.

If you’re currently using a 2014 MacBook and it’s doing everything you want maybe it would be better going for the M4 MacBook Air, I think I saw them did around $750 at Costco. These M chips are pretty crazy on performance and hardly ever get hot, the fans on my M3 rarely turn on

Now that theres a new MBP releasing soon I'm thinking the last gen model should drop in price in time for Black friday? Its gonna be my first time buying an Apple laptop so Im not sure if its reasonable to expect the M4 to be cheaper at least in a considerable amount. Should I check other places like Amazon for deals on the macbook pro or always stick to apple.com? TIA

Last year there was no significant discounts on MBP. They tend to discount the Airs. You can check the price trend on different models, it's been a while since BF actually had the better deals. That being said, with the M5 out, I'm assume the base M4 to be discounted as it naturally would. I purchased my M3 Pro in August 2024 for $1,499 at Best Buy. The price never dropped from MSRP ($1,999) at Apple. So go with whomever has the best deal.

Had to postpone getting the macbook pro I was gonna get and now its deal is gone lol. Best Buy has same prices as Costco right now for all the Airs I believe, and pair that with the PayPal pay in 4 20% cashback deal, don’t think you can beat that. I’m about to pull the trigger on a 13in base model at bestbuy for $750 + additional 20% off!

Probably other sites with same price, but I haven't seen anything cheaper.

Hey all - I have a Macbook as my daily work laptop, but have never had to buy one myself. My daughter is going to college next year and we are considering getting her a Macbook Air. Is this a good enough deal to pull the trigger now? My wife is also a teacher, but I haven't explored educator discounts. TIA!

The 512GB 13" Air is a great all rounder. $950 is the same promo Amazon has it for right now. Both promos are better than what the Apple Education store has it at ($1099) or even Apple Refurbished ($1019). Unless your daughter would need a Windows laptop for a specific use case (certain majors might use Windows exclusive software) it's a great buy.

That Costco price is better than the education discount. I think this price is available at a bunch of retailers now too. That machine will be great for college. I bought M1 MBA's for both of my kids when they went to college and they were great all through undergrad and grad school. They still use them today and they still work perfectly. The M4 version is even better. Unless your daughter is getting into some kind of video editing or CAD, or game developer the MBA is a great laptop for college. It's light, powerful, and the battery lasts all day. good luck
