August 7, 2025 - I did not think we would get more Made in Abyss content for several years. This is such a treat ... There is not much to adapt indeed, at least not for a full season. I suppose those movies will not be as long as a normal movie, and more like 30 minutes OVA with 6 months to a year between each movie.

August 7, 2025What are people's thoughts on the made in Abyss movie?
The movie is pretty good but has a lot of elements missing that made S1 really unique and interesting. The movie makes me wary about how the rest of the series could become and I'm hoping the rest of the series doesn't follow in the footsteps of the movie.

This isn't to say I dislike the movie but I do think it's a step down in quality from the 1st season. Anything I don't mention is probably very well done or intresting. I especially liked the characters designs, cinematography, lore, and especially Bondrewd himself. Bondrewd was a great villain that feels unique and something that only Made in Abyss can get away with.

We finally have some news: according to the obi (the promotional strip) attached to the fourteenth volume of the series, the anime sequel will be a series of films, with the first installment set to premiere in theaters in 2026.
The first film in the series (the fourth overall, following the two recap movies of the first season and Dawn of the Deep Soul) will be titled Made in Abyss: The Awakening Mystery!

That seems like a bit of an odd decision. I'm not sure how you'd turn the current story arc into a movie series, at least not the part we've seen so far. I guess they could end it on a cliffhanger just after Nanachi gets attacked, but then the rest of the movie would be mostly info dumps, dialogue, and exposition. Doesn't seem like that would work well.
