On MAL it says that there's been a season 2 confirmed, but at the same time there's no information regarding it and 2 movies have already been announced. Was the PV they supplied for it actually for a second season, or will we just be getting two recap films? I'm basically questioning the veracity of the MAL page saying that a season two will be coming out.

sigh There has been an unspecified sequel announced (could be a second season, movie(s), OVAs—we don't know), and also two recap movies to be released in January.

There is a movie coming next year. And you can read the manga from the start, only the already adapted stuff if you don't want to spoil stuff for yourself, S2 stops at ch60. If you want to directly continue from where the anime left read the volume 6 extras first then go and read from ch61 till the last available chapter.

Excuse me if I've gotten this wrong, but I have only heard bad things about Made In Abyss season 2. I have watched season 1, and I liked it a lot, but I don't want to watch season 2 if it's not good/ close to season 1. Please don't spoil anything, and I hope i didn't get the wrong idea about the second season.

Well I mean for one have you seen the movie? You can’t watch season 2 without having seen the movie or else you will just be very confused. As far as the season itself goes, it is fundamentally different than season 1, and a little bit messier. Ever since Mitty the story takes more time in the layers themselves, and it’s less about the adventure and more about… a whole lotta other shit. Culture of the abyss, inherent value, how far one’s nature defines their being, that kinda stuff. It’s very good, if a bit backloaded, you just have to understand that you aren’t getting the same thing as with season 1.

where have you heard bad things about season 2? it’s 100% worth watching especially if you liked season 1. another comment mentioned this but make you watch Made In Abyss Dawn of the Deep Soul movie before Season 2!

We finally have some news: according to the obi (the promotional strip) attached to the fourteenth volume of the series, the anime sequel will be a series of films, with the first installment set to premiere in theaters in 2026.

The first film in the series (the fourth overall, following the two recap movies of the first season and Dawn of the Deep Soul) will be titled Made in Abyss: The Awakening Mystery!

LET'S GOOO, the movie is definitely named after Srajo (Awakening mystery)

That seems like a bit of an odd decision. I'm not sure how you'd turn the current story arc into a movie series, at least not the part we've seen so far. I guess they could end it on a cliffhanger just after Nanachi gets attacked, but then the rest of the movie would be mostly info dumps, dialogue, and exposition. Doesn't seem like that would work well.

Season 3 would start from volume 11 (which is really recent and I think it's available only in Japan for now) This season is probably going to end on chapter 60 and currently the manga is at chapter 63

The current season ends probably on chapter 60. There is just 3-4 chapters available after the point the anime end
