(**Sorry, meant to add [REQUEST] to the subject but I'm not sure how to change it now.)
So I was Googling around after discovering that I have an intense girl crush on Francoise Hardy, and I stumbled upon http://jotot.com/, a men's lifestyle-type online magazine that I took a liking to--but with that niggling feeling that always accompanies me..."I wish there was a women's version of this, I'd relate to it a bit more."
It reminded me that I have always wanted to find a women's equivalent of all those classier men's magazines and sites that seem to focus more on the self. I'll go to a site like Glam or Ellie or Vogue (not even going to mention Cosmo, etc; I shudder at the thought) and just find it somehow immature and voyeuristic--I don't know if I'm just being pretentious or snobby or what, but I just really don't care about celebrities or Fashion Week or what beautiful people are doing. I'd like to find a publication that's less occupied with what models are wearing, with less gossip/celebrity news, less "how to make your bf happy"; and more how to improve yourself--an average woman--for improvement's sake. More real news, or culture, or opinion or travel. Something a bit more subdued, sophisticated and mature; more independent and wider-thinking. A little less sad. (No offense if you're into celebrity news and whatnot, but there's something odd about the way people gobble it up that makes me sad.)
Does that make sense? And does anyone have any suggestions? Or should I keep creeping on men's sites and magazines like an outsider looking in, forever hoping for something that doesn't exist...
EDIT: Thanks for all the responses! I should have mentioned that I would also like to find general (IE not aimed specifically at either gender) sites/mags as well. I suppose I was just lamenting the lack of female-specific ones compared to what guys have aimed at them.
