Hey there! It’s been a few days now, and I’d say I’m borderline obsessed with that damn Magic Keyboard. I should mention—I already own the ESR Magnetic Shift, a Logitech MX Keys Mini, and a Bluetooth mouse… and I barely even use them with my iPad. But for some reason, I can’t shake this ridiculous urge to get the Magic Keyboard. Please, talk me out of it!

Later edit : I failed, guys... just placed the order on a white one that i found for 200$ brand new ...

Hi, I would like to ask your opinion about the magic keyboard for the new iPad for M4 specifically the 13" version. I was first considering buying either the 11" with the keyboard or the 13" without. I bought the 13" iPad Pro due to more positive things and now I am finally considering the magic keyboard after a month of use. Could you please advise me if it is worthwhile and makes sense ? I've come across plenty of times when it would come in handy and typing on a software keyboard hasn't been the same. But I was wondering how do you find it ? Has anyone solved the same problem ? Would you recommend the keyboard even though it costs as much as it does ? I don't want to take it into consideration, but I also have a MacBook Pro, I don't need to replace it, I just probably have an iPad in my hand more often.

I ordered the new 13” pro (upgrading from the 10.5” pro from 2017!) and I also ordered the Magic Keyboard… I’m still on the fence about keeping the keyboard. I was really hoping for something more like the Logitech combo touch to be able to detach the actual keyboard portion and still having the edge to edge protection while using it strictly as a tablet; however, it looks like they’re only offering this keyboard in black and I really wanted a white/light colored option… first world problems, I know 😅 anyone have any recommendations for other types of keyboard/folios similar to the Logitech that actually work well with iPad? Or should I really keep the Magic Keyboard?

I have the 11 inch 2018 pro and i’m looking to upgrade to the new m5 later this year. With the purported changes with ios 19 it makes sense to get the 13 inch as i’m looking for a replacement laptop till the oled mbp comes out next year. As an ipad portable device i really don’t travel i just stay at home for the most part, but I wanted to get opinions on the 13 inch for the magic keyboard. Hell I don’t even have the new keyboard so those who do have it with the 11 inch new models can share as well. Thanks.

just dont get it. I got it cause I didn’t have a laptop and wanted to work on digital art + notes (thus the apple pencil)

the 13” is TOO BIG (imo), when in portrait mode- it’s wayyyy too big but when used as a laptop with the magic keyboard, I like it.

also DONT be like me and GET THE MAGIC KEYBOARD IN WHITE 🙏🙏

honestly i’d rather have the pro 11” with the magic keyboard in silver/black + apple pencil (also cause the pro has face recognition and the air has touch id)

Nothing wrong with a white MGKB. Shows less marks and oils/ fingerprints than the black

I just went through this last week. Decided to get back into an iPad, for productivity/scheduling/case tracking, after a 10+ year hiatus using laptops for work. After tons of research I listened to the bs advice of “get the 13 as a laptop replacement” and got an M5 iPad pro 13 with pen and MGKB. Hated it. An ipad will never be a laptop replacement. IpadOs cannot replace MacOs or windows. You’ll always be making compromises. The only thing even remotely similar to a laptop is the screen size. It’s just as big and heavy as my 13 inch laptop with the MGKB so I gained no extra portability. Attached to the MGKB it’s awkward as hell. It’s top heavy and unstable if you put too much back pressure on the screen. Typing on your lap is uncomfortable because of the top heaviness. It’s also awkward as hell to take off the MGKB and hold it like a tablet to do work, way too big. The only use for the 13 that i see, is if you lay it down flat and need the extra screen real estate to do whatever you have to do. Luckily I bought it straight from apple and was within the return window so I returned it and replaced it with the 11inch iPad pro with MGKB and pen and I couldn’t be happier. An iPad is a tablet, nothing more. I have a desktop PC at the office, a screen and docking station at home for iPad work and i still have my old laptop for times i need to do heavy laptop work, so I’m good to go. I understand that others may disagree with me but thats how I feel.

Long post but worth if you’re considering a iPad Pro M2, M3, or M4. I still believe the M1 is still decent as well. This thing has been amazing. First off, I was torn between a iPad and MacBook, obviously the Mac allows for more. But wait! Ask yourself, are you doing coding or anything extensive that you need a Mac? If not then the iPad is perfect as it was for my case. It legit does everyone I want/need. The cellular option was the biggest deciding factor for me, because I want to be connected at all times, plus with Verizon I can turn on WiFi calling on and it acts just like another phone for me in the event that my Apple Watch or iPhone gets lost etc. Aside from the Magic Keyboard which is DEFINITELY worth it, I love the tablet form convenience. It is the BEST media consumption device you could have and extremely fast. P.S. get a Pikita Case(off brand is Benks) if you need a case that allows different folding options for your iPad if you don’t need your Magic Keyboard & to keep your pencil in place. No regrets with this device at all.

I really love the magic keyboard but it leaves my shiny new iPad a bit unprotected, I have skimmed amazon for a while and haven't found a case that can stay on the iPad and fit in the magic keyboard (allowing it to be open and closed without removing it) does anyone have any?

Clarification: I mean something like this but for the 2024 M4 13 inch iPad Pro

First and foremost, I don’t like how YouTubers always promote the iPad Pro’s. I personally use an iPad Air M2 13” 256GB, which is more than enough power for me personally. I’ll be honest, I never saw why it Apple would make a Magic Keyboard for the iPad, as I always thought it was just a flex to be real with you. (Okay, I’ll admit I was a hater😂), then after buying one luckily brand new sealed at a significant discount, I now see why people say you can potentially use this in a laptop-like way, I’ve been primarily using this setup mainly the whole week intentionally with my full time job and studies, it really did the wonders for me. I feel less distracted than using my MacBook to be quite frank and felt I was way more productive using this Magic Keyboard with my iPad Air 13”, I personally use it as an alternative laptop just in case if my M1 MacBook Air breaks, god forbid, it really excelled in the experience for me with the iPad. One thing I was really concerned with in the beginning was the battery life as I was scared a full charge wouldn’t last the whole day. Luckily, it does! I take it everywhere with me now more than my MacBook, even to the office, I only go once a week for meetings that mandatory to attend. I do my banking, signing documents is more easier (now just need to get the Apple Pencil, will probably get the Apple Pencil Pro sometime later in the year), sending emails, sending documents from my iCloud Drive from my stuff from my MacBook, making and editing documents to give to new clients. Taking it to meeting to make notes (with the note app) instead of having a diary, it honestly makes my life so much easier, I don’t really care about not having the cellular version of the iPad, as i use my iPhone as hotspot and buy a lot of data monthly, and mainly around WiFi luckily. People are even shocked at the workplace that I am using an iPad to do my work, as they don’t really know what an iPad is capable of. In first world countries in the field I’m in. They mainly use iPads with a Magic Keyboard to do their work as it involves a lot of research/prospecting in properties. The keyboard hasn’t left my iPad ever since. I really wouldn’t consider myself a heavy user, due to the fact I don’t photo edit, video edit, I luckily have a professional photographer who specialises in taking photos of homes before putting it on the market and he is very good at it. Then just stuff for me and then emails the photos.

Hi! I currently have a 2017 10.5 Pro, the screen shattered and the age of the processor shows. I loved this iPad for its form factor of the smaller pro and it being the first iPad series with ProMotion. Really helped me improve with maths and sciences.

Looking at the demos physically, the huge OLED of the 13" and its Macbook sized magic keyboard looks lovely. My main use cases are for school, I'm going to take IB for junior and senior year which has a lot of writing, sciences, and math. Since I'm gonna spend a lot of time with this iPad and it stays for me for 7 years, might as well be a good one. My worry is if I take the 11" as a main device in school, it might be too much of a compromise for multitasking such as Google Docs and Safari or a PDF with Goodnotes together, it might be too small and I see myself squinting with the smaller screen. Editing photos on LR mobile is important for me too, I take lots of photos. Little bit of game ports to iPadOS should be fun too.

Might wanna take the 11 inch for its portability. 😃

Thoughts? Thank you!

The 11” iPad Air, later an 11” iPad Pro, served as my only “computer” in school for over 1.5 years before I ended up getting a Mac to complement my iPad. I’d say if the iPad Pro is going to be your only device, the 13” may be the way to go for the bigger screen size and canvas to work with, as 11” could sometimes feel cramped when multitasking, say note taking while also having other references open. The previous gen bigger iPad Pro models were heavier and bulkier with the magic keyboard then they now are, since the iPad Pro 13” went from 1.5 pounds to 1.28 pounds and the magic keyboard got lighter too, so although portability is still really good with the 11” (like I have), the 13” getting much lighter will definitely help with that and I’m sure if you went for the bigger screen size, you’d definitely not regret having the extra canvas for your only computing device.

With that being said, I definitely got by just fine having the 11” instead of the bigger size, and I definitely don’t regret doing so. The portability is certainly unmatched, especially for those moments where I’m moving around and interacting with the iPad while on the go. In fact, before my 11” Air, I had been using the OG 2015 12.9” iPad Pro for about a year in change, and I was feeling like I didn’t really need all that screen size and the weight of it just made it feel a bit cumbersome to take around with me everywhere (especially with it’s logitech keyboard case for the time). But honestly, the decision is totally up to you. I’d recommend that if you haven’t really felt cramped with your current 10.5” screen size and the portability is perfect for you, then I think you should stick with the smaller form factor if it’s already been comfortable.

And although it doesn’t seem like you’re planning to get another laptop/separate on the go computer (like I once was), going with the 11” in the first place was really good for when I got my 13” MBA, since the 11” was unique and set itself apart from my 13” laptop, whereas if I had my 12.9” still, I’d probably be barely using it if my MBA has a similar screen size and could accomplish just as much or even more in a more “easy to carry” package.

I’d say if you’re still stuck up on the decision, next time you’re in a store with the demo units you could “test” it as if it is yours by putting notes and safari side by side or whatever is similar to your typical workflow to see if the extra screen size makes any difference to you. I’ve used both form factors so I have some experience with how it’s like to use both, if you have any other questions I could definitely try to give some additional insights!

r/iPadPro on Reddit: How is your honest experience with the new Magic Keyboard for the M4 iPad Pro?
September 4, 2024 -

I’m planning to buy an M4 iPad Pro (12.9 inch) this week. My main question right now is if it’s worth buying the new Magic Keyboard.

Things I want to know are:

  1. Is the iPad pro with the MKB wobbly as it is?

  2. Is the iPad pro with the MKB wobbly when using it with the Pencil Pro? (For highlighting ebooks, writing some notes)

  3. Do I need 3rd party iPad cases when using it in tablet mode since it will be bare?

You can answer the questions above or just share your experiences with the M4 iPad. Any comments are appreciated. Thanks!

EDIT: Decided to go with the iPad pro 13 inch and MKB combo! Will update you guys but so far the experience is great. Thank you for all the comments!

I originally upgraded from the M1 12.9 to the M4 13 on launch day for the new iPads. The reduction in weight was great...for a little bit. Unfortunately, the new weight and thinness doesn't fundamentally fix the awkward handling when trying to use the big iPad as a tablet. It still requires you to prop it up with a pillow or hold it with two hands endlessly. I didn't feel like I made much of an upgrade, so I returned the M4 13 + Magic Keyboard and picked up the M4 11 + Apple Pencil Pro.

HOLY CRAP this feels sooo much better. I can actually hold the tablet with one hand comfortably endlessly without needing to constantly prop it up! This was the reduction in weight that I originally wanted when upgrading. I don't use the Apple Pencil for drawing, it's purely for relaxed navigation. It's far much more chill sitting/laying on the couch casually poking at the screen instead of constantly having to stretch my hand everywhere or use the keyboard. The new "squeeze" function can be used with Apple shortcuts as well. That one little addition fixes a lot of my issues with the Apple Pencil from previous years!

The biggest surprise for me was actually enjoying the screen size reduction. I was wary of "downgrading" from using a 12.9 inch for years to a much smaller 11-inch tablet. I'm happy to be wrong on this, the 11-inch size feels like the perfect size for a tablet. I didn't realize before that the 12.9/13 inch is simply waaay too big. Unless you're sitting at a desk, the 13-inch feels "wrong" as a tablet. Everything just feels too spaced out, it requires far more effort to do basic touch navigation.

So if you're someone like me who uses the ipad more for reading, movie watching, light gaming, web browsing, etc. the 11-inch model I think is the right choice. I originally bought the M1 12.9 mainly for the mini led display (movies looked amazing on it.) However, now that both sizes have OLED displays, the 11-inch iPad feels like a no brainer for most people.

September 4, 2025 -

I ordered this online and like it a lot. However, I got it to use in place of my heavy laptop when I travel or go to a coffee shop. And man is it heavy! It feels like I’m walking around with a brick in my bag. Not quite as bad as my laptop but doesn’t feel like the light little tablet I can just throw in my bag that I was expecting it to be. It feels like the keyboard itself weighs as much as the iPad itself, if not more.

If I returned this and got the 11 inch would I be happier or is it nearly just as weighty? I was unable to find any weight specs on apples website for their keyboards. I’m willing to give up some screen real estate in favor of better portability.

r/iPadPro on Reddit: iPad Pro 11 vs 13 paired with Magic Keyboard.

Hey Folks, just a couple of questions for you comparing the iPad Pro sizes when they are paired with a Magic Keyboard.

Right now I am typing on an 11 inch iPad Air with a Magic Keyboard. I have literally never used a Magic Keyboard until today. The quality is amazing (as usual with apple), but just a couple of small items I am questioning whether or not I like them. And curious if the 13 pro would have these same quirks.

  1. The top row of buttons are very hard to type without hitting my knuckles. The delete button and all of the numerical buttons are kind of a pain in the tush to type out. Making mistakes sucks cause the delete button is tricky to get to. is this something I will get used to eventually? Does the 13 inch pro have this same thing with the Magic Keyboard?

  2. The trackpad on this Magic Keyboard feels great but it is tiny. Is the trackpad on the 13 inch Magic Keyboard a bit larger?

Other than those two items this keyboard feels amazing and very high quality.

Thanks for your input and advice.
