I have an 11” M1 and use it most of the time for writing purposes. I have a third party keyboard and it was good enough until I started to use the iPad more than my laptop and realized that I need a better writing/trackpad experience.
I’ve also been debating on getting the a 13” iPad (still not sure if the pro m1, the air m2, or the pro m4 ). I don’t really need the power of the M4 nor care much about the new features , but I’m very interested in the new Magic Keyboard and that alone could be the reason to choose a higher end iPad but only if the experience in the new Magic Keyboard id significantly better than the one on the old Magic Keyboard.
So can you tell me more about the differences in comfort and usability between the old and the new Magic Keyboard? I’m interested in both typing and the trackpad.
Thank you!

I've read mixed things about whether my current Magic Keyboard will be compatible with the new 2021 iPad 12.9" Pro. Looking at Apple's site, it is unclear other than its availability comes on 4/30 with the iPad.
I sure hope I don't have to buy a new keyboard! Also be nice if they labeled it like the Pencil with versions.
Edit: Thank you everyone on all your great input. I looked at the compare iPad page on the Apple site and it says it is compatible with Magic Keyboard and Smart Keyboard Folio. Thank you to Gladaltthedry to spark me to compare the iPads where I found it. Looks like the 12.9 is .3 mm thicker than the new Air. Fingers crossed
