Moom is also better for multi monitor. It will remember the locations and size of all windows on all screens. One easy click restores order to your standard config.

I tried Magnet, Rectangle, Rectangle Pro, and something else I can't remember. Of those, I liked Rectangle Pro the best. It has a couple of features that normal Rectangle does not have that made things easier on me. One of them is a Center Two Thirds setting, which I use often. Another is it can remember window positions and sizes for a set of windows. You can later use that Layout and all of the windows move to their proper positions and sizes. I use the App Layouts feature along with Alfred to open a set of windows and then move/size them as I want them every time. This works great. There's nothing like actually trying them to show you what you do and do not like. More on reddit.com

I see a lot of love for the Magnet app on the Mac App Store (and rightfully so, since macOS window management is quite weird and lacking), but I also see that nobody ever mention Rectangle.
Rectangle is a Magnet equivalent app, but if offers few extra features and, more importantly, it is free and open-source (the developer is very nice). It is also recommended on the Spectacle (now unmaintained) GitHub page as a replacement. Try it before buying Magnet!
Disclaimer:
Just to be clear, I'm not at all against paying for quality software (otherwise I wouldn't be a macOS user in the first place), but I think that many people don't know this application at all, so it could be helpful to share.

New M1 machine. I was just about to download Magnet and decided to see if there were better / similar alternatives. Happy to have found this thread. Will shortly give Rectangle a go. Sidenote: For a company with such high focus on UX and UI, it is befuddling why Apple hasn't natively produced a way to organize multiple windows on screen.

I switched to Rectangle recently, it’s great. You can even set it to use the same keyboard shortcuts as Magnet.

Hey there, I've been using Magnet as my window manager for about 2 years now and whenever I switch to my Windows PC I notice how much better their window tile management system is.
I'm just wondering if anyone has come across an app that closely imitates the behaviour of Windows? It's just soo much better in my opinion and Magnet is ok but nowhere near as smooth imo.

try Swish , if you use the trackpad this is the best one, I tried all of them and none comes close to the snappiness and ease of use of this one. It's a one time, feels native, you don't need to remember keyboard shortcuts because the gestures are natural and you get used to it very quickly. they have educational discount
